I am making plans to go visit our student counseling center here soon. I am not really sure what is wrong, but with the way I have been feeling and acting I want to get help. I went to my doctor last November who ran a bunch of tests and stuff and physically everything came back fine. I have a good doctor who discussed coming back if things didn’t improve. However I am on my mom’s insurance and when I was telling her about what she said, she went on about why she stopped taking the meds she was on because of the side effects (antidepressants/antianxiety). So I don’t know where she stands right now. However I discovered that my school has a student counseling center on the main campus that is free to students. So I am planning on driving up to the main campus, which it is an hour away to visit them.

I was wondering what is your experiences with these kind of clinics, and what should I expect when I get there? I seen a therapist when I was younger but that has been 12 years ago and at that time my mom did all the paperwork, etc.

I don't want to crush your hope, but both the counseling centers at the two colleges I attended would not touch bipolar. However if you are having "minor" trouble they can be a good stopgap measure. But they most likely won't prescribe anything.

Edit: I forgot they DID see me at the first one. But I pretended like I hadn't been anywhere before And was just super anxious about school. I'm not sure what would have happened if they ever figured it out because I dropped out shortly thereafter.

Edit again: I feel like i'm saying things meanly. i don't mean it that way. If you've never gone for help it's a great place to start because they will refer you to a doctor/therapist in the area of your school. If you don't live at school I'm sure they'll be able to find people in your own area.

Basically a counselor will as what brought you in and it develops from there.
