I just started it and wonder if I'm having side effects. Have you ever been on it and what SE, if any, have you noticed? It's working well so I'm hoping they'll go away: GI symptoms (no appetite, nausea, indigestion) and cold-like symptoms (sore throat and runny nose). They're all mild, but annoying and I really don't want to switch to anything else.

For me the side effect was drowsiness, rather problematic actually to the the point I had to discontinue it. Unfortunate really, as it worked well for my symptoms. I just wasn't able to function with the constant drowsiness which didn't go away no matter what time of day or night I tried to take it.

I forgot to mention that I've noticed I'm more tired than usual. Consequently I'm drinking more caffeine.

Geodon will make you tired. I took it at night. Other than the tiredness I only experoenced not having sexual desire. Other than that it was a great med

Geodon made me so ridiculously tired that instead of doing a split dose, I had to take it all at night.

Other than that, it gave me a horrendous tremor. Needless to say, I am no longer on it.

I've been taking it for almost 5 years this time, and about 2 years before I got pregnant. One of the side effects is decreased appetite...I would barely be able to finish half a sandwich. It helped me lose some extra weight I'd gained from taking Seroquel. This second time I started on it, I was losing too much weight and seemed a little flat personality wise, so my pdoc added abilify first, which didn't work, and then finally lamictal, which I've been doing good on. I've noticed at night when I'm not quite tired enough to fall right to sleep, I'll have uncontrolled movements of my upper body, mainly my shoulders. They just jerk a little. But I just close my eyes and think about going to sleep or put my mind on something else and they lessen. I take 60mg in the morning and I get tired if I eat food right away, which is recommended to be most effective. I'll fall asleep for 2 hours, which is not good when I'm the only one home with my little one. I take 80mg at night and will feel tired usually about 3 hours after I take it, sometimes longer if I take a nap during the day. But when I first started on it, it would knock me out within an hour. I've thought about switching meds but I've seemed to do pretty well on Geodon and I hate switching and dealing with new side effects and being super tired. I haven't really been depressed, and I think too much Lamictal was making me slightly manic, but I decreased that and I've been good. Decreased libido is definitely an issue, which bothers my husband way more than it bothers me. Good luck to you on it!

A good way to fight the tiredness is to be active. I've started a fitness challenge with a group of people and I've found that I'm not as tired in the mornings when I work out, and I don't have quite the need for coffee to keep me going. Yesterday was my off day, and I had coffee and a nap in the morning.

I'd stay on it with those symptoms. You never know: you could have a cold.

When I took it, I felt like I'd had one of those radioactive CT scans. I just felt like I'd eaten the sun or an atomic bomb or something. My dr took me off.

I had some of the cold like symptoms when I first started on it, but after a while, it went away.

Me too. I can't take it in the AM because I'm dead asleep two hours later.

Other side effect has been supressed appetite. Not so bad.

I've been taking geodon for over 3 years and am on 320 mg. It does make me tired but I take provigil to offset that. I haven't gained weight on it which is why I stay on it. I take 1 pill in the am and 3 pills at night.

Thanks everyone. I switched from abilify because my appetite was ravenous and geodon has completely knocked that out. I'm going to stay on it for a few more weeks, and if these SE are all I have to deal with, I'll stay on it. Maybe I'll see a respectable weight again!

I've been on Geodon for over a year now and I lost weight on it that I'd gained on Zyprexa. Now I've regained some of it because I'm back on Zyprexa, but not as much as I did when I was just taking Z. I don't remember having congestion when I went on it, so it just may be that you're getting a cold, or maybe allergies.

I do get sleepy on Geodon which is why I take it at night, with a glass of milk or a tablespoon of peanut butter for better absorption.

Wishing you the best of luck with it.

I couldn't take a split dose, had to take it all at night due to drowsiness... Every day without fail, I'd have a few hours' long exhaustion spell. I couldn't drive because my eyes would be crossing and closing on their own. Switching to night dose only helped. It also lowered my blood pressure too much... I couldn't tolerate anything but a low dose. It was weight neutral for me, which was nice. I switched to Abilify, eventually.

Do you take it with milk or peanut butter for a specific reason? Or will any food do?

It has to be taken with around 300-400 calories for it to absorb right. Preferably with something fatty. I just take it at dinner time.

I've been on geodon for over 2 years and it has been a life saver. I don't have any side effects except a little trouble waking up in the morning. Maybe those symptoms yr experiences mean yr getting sick and have nothing to do with geodon side effects? If it's the geodon I'm sure they'll go away soon. It's a great drug! Good luck with it. I wouldn't give up on it.

My doctor did say to take with food, but I don't in the morning because it knocks me out, even at 60mg. I can't take it just once a day because it doesn't last long enough in my system. I think it has a half life of about 10-12 hours. I wish I could take it just once at night. I usually wait about 3 hours after taking it before I eat something, which my doctor doesn't really like. But even when I take it at night, it still takes about 3 1/2 hours for me to feel tired.

Takes me a while to get sleepy too, even though I'm on Zyprexa and Klonopin as well as the Geodon. So I take all my meds around 8:30 PM so I get sleepy around 11 PM.

I have noticed a slightly suppressed desire to eat, along with an upset stomach. It doesn't make me tired.

I liked Geodon a lot except for it did something odd to my hearing after a while. When I talked, it sounded like the words were being heard in my head and I couldn't hear how loud I was talking. This made me not talk very much because I was afraid I would talk too loud. I didn't realize this was a died effect until I went off the medication. I was also on depakote and Wellbutrin at the time and wasn't sure which was making my hair fall out so I stopped them all. I did go back on Wellbutrin and depakote later, so I know it was either the Geodon or the combined effect of all 3 that caused the hearing issue. My periods also stopped and doctors blamed that on Geodon. (I didn't really mind that).

I'd better dial it down then, because I'm already loud!
