Is it possible to fix bipolar? I've read that you will have it your whole life and that you need to try harder to realize when you are going to change. I can't figure it out. I'm trying so hard but when I'm manic... man I'm crazy. When I'm depressed... it's like I'm in a hole. My therapist isn't helping and nether are the meds...

Maybe try different meds?
In most cases, it can be managed, not cured, but managed.

In some cases, medication doesn't seem to help much.

I would keep trying.

The best one can hope for is remission, not a cure. It took the public health system a few years to come up with a working cocktail, and another several years to find one that works well.

There is no "cure" for Bipolar, instead with proper therapy and meds the symptoms can be lessened and even go into a "remission". However it is a life-long ailment.

If you feel that your therapist isn't helping have you considered switching to a different one, sometimes it can take some time to find one that is helpful for you. As for your meds have you talked about this with your pdoc?

This is a brain disorder problem. So far, there is no permanent "fix" but meds do help. It took 5 years of working w/my MD, neurologist (I have seizures also) & pdoc to get the right meds. A psych RN also helped.
If the meds you are on don't help after 4-6 weeks, it's time to try something different. It also helps to find some sort of exercise you like: dance, walking in nature, yoga... and joining a group to do something interesting/fun helps, too. I'm not talking of therapy groups, altho' some people do find those helpful (I didn't, too much down talk). I mean like finding a group of people who do things you enjoy: seeing/talking about films together, doing Medieval or Ren' Faire events, book clubs, writing clubs. Surrounding yourself with upbeat people is good. This forum is very helpful.
Scientists are working to find out why our brains are different & how to help. But at this juncture, the best help is via meds. Best Wishes to you for finding a good place!

Not sure if it's fixable.

Drugs can help. So can supplements, getting your life right....... for me what work the most is learning to body surf it and learn to expand my comfort zone.
