Hi everybody
I'm Teegee, 24 year old male with bipolar disorder type II. I've been stable since my diagnosis, but I still get depressed, sometimes very depressed, at night. What could be causing this? And do you sometimes become depressed at night as I do? |

Yes, I have to watch night, because I'm tired of working all day and worrying thoughts start to take over my brain. If I let them I will get very depressed at bedtime. I think when the busy day is done, our brains go into overdrive with ruminating thoughts that lead us into depression. I find it helps if I listen to relaxation tapes at bedtime to get my brain to slow down. That's just me. I'm sure others have different experiences. Best wishes.

I can relate -- but it's not bedtime for me...normally its the time between getting home from work and just after dinner -- just before bed....in bed I can give in a relax, but if I am up, I ALWAYS feel like I should be doing something productive (which helps take my mind off all those little internal dialogs I carry on with myself).

My depression gets much worse at night. I think its a combo of my meds for the day wearing off (I take them at night) and being alone with my thoughts.

My depression time is usually from 3:00 pm until around 6:30 pm. Our bodies have cycles & we are all different. Before going on good meds, I'd get Super hyper manic at about 3:00 a.m. until Dawn.

Welcome to PC, teegeeteegee!
I find myself usually getting depressed at night time also. I think this is due to us not having as much to keep us busy, therefore we do a lot of reflection of the day and start to ruminate. Also as mentioned if you are taking medications the effects begin to wear off at this point which can cause depression as well. |
