It's hard to tell, because I've been so depressed all semester...but I feel really excited and happy and the thing that sort of tipped me off that this might not be a good thing is that I sort of chopped off all my hair at one in the morning last night...I've had elbow-length hair since middle school. I like it, but I'm a little worried that I'm going to crash and not like it so much. Usually my manic phases aren't quite as noticeable and extensive as my depressive ones. I haven't felt this way in a while.
Has anyone ever done anything a little nuts when they were manic? Just out of curiosity. I'm kind of new to the idea that I have bipolar, so in the past I don't think I've recognized mania, except to note that I get into really excited and happy phases. Worst thing I ever did was move out, spend a ton of money, go completely broke within a month, and move right back in..sort of a prodigal son story. Next would probably be chopping off all my hair. Anyone have any stories? |

Hello, Rayne Selene. Unlike the money, your hair will grow back in time.

It sounds like you know where you are....
Are you on meds? See a doctor or therp? I'm bipolar II, so I don't generally get full-blown mania. The strangest thing I ever did when manic was subscribe to three book-of-the-month clubs for my young daughter, then forget about it until the books started coming in. I had almost no money at that time, so it was a bit of a shocker. On the other hand, my daughter go some really good books.

Back in December I was convinced I wanted a pixie hair cut .. thought about it for weeks to make sure .. so off I went and my half way down my back hair was on the salon floor ... Of course now I hate it hate hate ... But nothing I can do but let it grow in ...
Lots of people seems to chop off hair of color it something wild while manic not sure why but even bipolar celebrities do it lol Maybe keep a mood chart and you can find a trend and safe guard your money and stuff ahead of time . Good luck

I went totally bankrupt in my last extreme mania cycle.
I destroyed all my credit cards, and I am 100% debt free now.

When I was in my 20's I chopped my hair & dyed it blue. My friend tried to warn me that I & everyone I knew loved my locks & that I should wait as I was probably going through something. While it did grow back, it was never as healthy

btw if any of you guys grow back and decide to chop off your hair again, there is an organization called Locks of Love that takes human hair and makes it into wigs for children suffering from hair loss (eg, due to chemo treatments).

Oh do I have stories! To many to tell, but I'll share one. Before I was diagnosed I bought an airplane ticket to the Phillipines (from the U.S.) I also felt like I needed a 1/4 of an oz of mushrooms for the "trip" which I ate on the plane. Needless to say it was a horrible 30 hours stuck on a plane in that condition. Going through customs like that was bizarre and terrifying and when I finally arrived I was in a foreign country with nowhere to go. Just one of many, many stories.
