Hi everyone, I was wondering: I know that its recommended that you take medication for bipolar disorder, and that you take it basically for the rest of your life. I also know that therapy is recommended as well. What I'm wondering is, does the therapy go on indefinitely? Or is it something that you do for a few months and then maybe go back to a few years later or something? I'm just wondering what to expect, as I've started with a new therapist recently.

I have been seeing my T for just over 3 years .. I am more stable when I see him weekly.. Being able to talk to him has probably kept me out of the hospital 10-15 times .. So for me Therapy is very beneficial..

last month my t and myself agreed we had hit an impass and we both decided to suspend our sessions for now...all my serious issues (mostly job stress) have been resolved by medication,, but I did promise to return if any new issues surface...we have been at it once a month for the last two years..

For me therapy is always needed but I have childhood abuse that has left me.with many issues. My main abuser is still alive which is my father. I go weekly.and I see her like a life coach. She helps me see how much I've grown and improved. I.know it's important to start see these things in yr self and I do but I respect her input. I think It's really important to fully trust yr therapist...that way you can be totally open and honest with them. Right now I'm seeing her weekly and when I'm more stable I see her every other week. Even without a history of abuse it's important to treat our bp with therapy. Episodes can leave us with trauma and depression...and therapists can help us see if we are in an episode too. Sometimes it's hard to see those symptoms in ourselves. I hope you have a great connection with yr New therapist. If not there are many excellent ones out there! Good luck to you. Hugs
