Well I took the 2 mg of Ativan almost an hour ago and don't feel tired in the slightest.

Take care theatrekid. I just got my mania under control a couple days ago, partly by increasing my Lamictal dose.
I'm sleeping again! Yay!

Mania is great fun, but get done sleep. Or else... You know.

My pdoc specializes in psychosis, so I trust her. Not to say you or your pdoc is wrong, it's just that benzos have been useful to me in the past. I forgot to ask why she was against melatonin. I'll ask next time.
I wrote my last response at 5am so I probably had the med mixed up or I just simply can't recall. Since it's a benzo you should be fine, I use xanax to fall asleep since I get panic attacks at night and it never caused me to have an episode.

Thanks, medicalfox... if you're talking about strictly sleeping pills, like Imovane or Ambien, my pdoc is definitely against using those for sleep in her patients. I slept pretty decently last night, 5 unbroken hours, even though I never felt the Ativan kick in. I still feel really revved up but maybe it will take a few days.

Thanks pawn and coasta... my next journey will be to find the fun and funny person I am while manic and be him while I'm not manic.

i take up to 5 mg ativan prn but i try to avoid it
its good to have on hand when you need it though... just making yourself take it is the hard part. meds scare me and im convinced that i will die of an interaction or overdose or whatever. when i can get past the irrational fear it does help take the edge off and can stop the first signs of my hypomania. when im actually manic i dont feel like it does as much but hubby says he thinks it helps me be more reasonable.

ive been taking imovane for years and i want to taper off but i get really bad benzo withdrawl symptoms even though z-class drugs arent supposed to work the same as benzos exactly.

i hope you get some decent sleep... it can make all the difference in the world
