I know next to nothing about bipolar disorder, and the test I took said it was likely that I am.
I'm not really sure what that means. I've come to expect and deal with my mood swings, and I thought that they were normal. Do other people get mood swings? Or is this abnormal?

I'm very confused.

Everyone has moodswings, and some people are more moody than others, its completely normal.

Our Bipolar moods are labelled as disordered because of the havoc the mood shifts wreak in our lives.

Bipolar is wayyy more than being moody, I think "mood disorder" is a misleading over simplification of our reality.

If you're concerned you should probably see your doctor. Yes everyone gets mood swings normally but can be due for a variety of reasons.

Bipolar mood swings are crazy. They are extreme and interfere with daily living.

i know wat is means when u mean facing and dealing with your mood swings. for me, they just become part of my temperament since a child so everyone thought i was just stubborn and short-tempered. then when i was diagnosed that everyone understands its the illness. i learn that normal others don't go through the same episodes and there's a name for it and others out there like me.

My advice is to talk to your doctor and see if you can get an appointment with a psychiatrist or psychologist for proper testing. Internet testing is notoriously unreliable. We can't offer any more help to you because we're not doctors. We're all just people with BP and everyone is different.

This. Do you find your mood swings cause significant problems in your family or work life? I agree that discussing this with your doctor is an important step.

I hope you find some answers to your questions Tyranover.

Agree with others ..

Bipolar mood swings can be extreme

Online testing is a joke

Have you had a physical recently ? Lots of things can cause changes in mood , Hormones , Thyroid etc .. Best to rule out physical illness first. If all that comes back normal ask for a psych refferal .

Good luck

Thanks for the advice guys, and yes, mood swings have affected me in the past. I've been in quite a few fights (physical and verbal) that started when my mood changed. I've been having mood swings since I was10, or at least that's when I started acting on them.

I recently had a physical in December, and it was all normal. So not thyroid or hormonal problems.

How do I go about finding a therapist? Last time I approached my Mom about it, she just laughed me out of the room, and said that it's normal.

I agree.that you should get a referral from yr doctor but you can also.look in yr area for therapy clinics. As others have said you'll need to see yr regular doc for a psychiatrist referral. I'm sorry yr Mom reacted that way to you when you brought up therapy. Some people are either too proud to seek help or they think it's not necessary when it is. There is no shame in seeking help. If it weren't for the mental health professionals out there many mi folks would be alone floundering in utter misery. You know yrself best. If yr mood swings are interfering with yr daily life then it's time to be evaluated. I wish you luck. Let us know how it goes. Hug
