My partner who is diagnosed Bipolar was doing very well with Abilify and Cymbalta (taking trazedone at night). Because of the cost of Abilify (I won't rant about this, but it's ridiculous), his doctor switched him to Zoloft as a possible substitute. This substitution doesn't make a lot of sense to me since Abilify is an antipsychtic and zoloft is an antidepressant.
He has been on Zoloft for about 2 weeks and he has been experiencing several fast bipolar cycles since. He doesn't feel that the zoloft works as well as the Abilify. I wondered if anyone here has experienced this substitution? and I'm wondering how long the zoloft takes to see positive effects? Thank you!

Ad's are "usually " not a good idea for Bipolar I but they work for some people .Everyones Bipolar is unique . Is he on a Mood stabilizer? If hes not feeling that the current meds aren't helping then an appt with the Pdoc is needed sooner rather than later.

Ability has AD effects too. But a switch do Zoloft? Idk about that.

I'm on abilify and wouldn't swap it for Zoloft. Totally different drugs. Though it is expensive.

Abilify and zoloft were completely different to me. Abilify was for my bipolar and zoloft for ocd not for bipolar and if hes on cymbalta and zoloft without a moodstabilizer well thats dangerous for me. My family doc put me on two ad and i didnt sleep for 5 days. I quit myself bc i knew he was wrong. My new pdoc took me off my ad and am only on moodstabilizer now. Not much different to be honest.
