Has anyone read this book?
What are your thoughts? I read a lot of reviews saying people didn't like or have empathy for the author as she either seemed egotistical or full of self pity. I wanted to ask why they were reading a book that was focused on how mania and bipolar feels to the person experiencing it? Of course she is going to be egotistical while manic and self pitying while depressed, that's kind of standard? It helped me realise a lot of things in terms of what parts I related to and what parts I didn't. I realised that maybe 80% of my depression is more of a mixed state. I am really interested to know anyone's thoughts on the book and author

I read it and liked it. I am always interested in other people's bp experiences. I didn't really grade it as an overall piece of writing, but rather just one person's story.

Yeah I agree.. It was like a well written Diary.
It was very frank and honest and she didn't hold back, or seem to leave out any details.

I think that was the book that made me go "oh, **** they're right " it helped that she was able "think through her BP" because pdoc 1 said I don't have BP because I could think through things while "manic".

I read it from the library and enjoyed it. It's on my list of books that were good enough to read again, and I remember jotting down a couple of passages in my journal.

Can anyone recommend any other books that are good? Not necessarily bipolar related but mental health in general

I have this book. I've read through it several times and found the author to be one troubled but strong lady. There's some things I couldn't relate to, because I've never been promiscuous nor do I have the kind of money that would let me run away every so often. But over all, I liked the book and thought it was realistic.

Not bipolar, but Elyn Saks's book The Center Cannot Hold is excellent. Another one on my read again list.
