When you land do your Pdocs take you off the heavy hitters? Or do they leave you on them? Like my seroquel would my Pdoc possibly pull me off it? I don't want to be on them all the time if I don't have to be.

My pdoc tends to want me to be stable for a long period of time (like 6 months) before pulling me off whatever meds stabilized me.

For example, I'm currently on 3 APs but before she nixes the Risperidone she wants me stable for 6 months in a row.

It really depends on you and your Pdoc ..Some people need AP's daily and that is ok .. Some Pdocs arent comfortable taking someone off Ap's once they are on them. Once your stable just talk to your Pdoc about your treatment.

Personally I wont take AP's daily . I deal with Psychosis really often but it is mild enough that I can handle it with out going on heavy duty meds. My Pdoc is okay with this.. Him and I both are concerned with long term use of them. If I do get into psychosis that I cant handle on my own I will go on Ap's for a few weeks. But that hasnt happened in 6-8 months.

I never "land"...there's always some kind of fairly major problem (depression, anxiety, hypomania, etc.).

I think it's really up to the individual treatment team. You'd probably want to have a certain amount of stable time before considering going off meds. I wEnt off Seroquel when I got stable last winter because I can't take the side effects but I did it without a doxtor's consent. I did well for about four months. Now I feel I might need an ap long term, as much as it pains me to admit it. If you're concerned I would talk to your pdoc about it.

I would say your meds have never been correct then but then again I'm not a dr. I will say this of the 2 years with meds (after stopping self medicating with Marijuana) I've only had about 6 weeks of true stable.... probably about the best 6 weeks I can remember. .. then crash and burn.... still working on the meds :/ .... if you rapid cycle I'd say it's gotta be a little harder to get the meds really tweaked... if its even possible

I think it really depends on the medication mix. My dr wanted me to go off Effexor once the Latuda stabilized- as he was worried that having an anti-depressant would make it too easy for me to get on the manic side. I waited until I let the Latuda kick in before I finally consented to going off Effexor.

Meds help me tremendously...when I've gone off certain meds my moods and thoughts were crazy. I mean...I'm doing okay on meds at this time, so why would I want to go off them...I guess I'm somewhat confused. If a person is on meds and "lands", why stop the meds?

I don't even know what I'm thinking. I'm not even close to landing I don't think right now. I really don't like seroquel and now the hospital visit that I had a few years ago makes sense why they put me on geodon. I don't want to take meds anymore.
