So I started Topamax 6 days ago and I think I'm starting to feel the dumbs coming on. For instance, I couldn't think of the word for "that thing on the side of your house that you attach a hose to" (spigot). It wasn't like it was on the tip of my tongue. It was just absent from my vocabulary. Until someone told me.

I feel very slow and dopey, and kind of anxious and pissed because of it. I've been very up and productive and like a machine at work, and now this. I know. They call it Dopamax for a reason.

Is this side effect temporary? How do you combat it/cope with it? I miss how I've been the past few weeks. I don't want that to go away.

Cymbalta, 60mg -- for the depression.
Latuda, 40mg -- for the paranoia (delusional type).
Adderall, 40mg XR & 5 mg reg -- for the ADD.
Xanax, .5 mg as needed -- for the anxiety.
Topamax, 50mg -- still figuring this one out.

MDD, but possibly have some form of Bipolar Disorder. Then again, I could be paranoid . . .

Well, at least I still have my sense of humor.

It's a give and take. My meds have taken away my intelligence. I've had to do "brain training" programs. Try one of those programs before giving up topamax.

Hey Velouria, yeah I was the one who called it Dopamax in your other post. For me, the slow cognitive skills, never went away. Also, I failed to mention on your other post that it can cause hair lose. Best of luck, and sorry this has happened to you!

Which brain training program? Do you like it?

Luckily I have a lot of hair, but if I start losing it . . . I might ask about Lamictal. I might ask about it anyway if this doesn't go away. Too much anxiety. I feel like I did nothing at work today.

I use learning RX the cheapest version. I would have used something cheaper but it was originally for my son. I didn't like the idea of aba therapy or meds and this we could use forever. Now we use it for all three of us.

Topamax is my least favorite anti-convulsant for the reasons listed above

My niece tried Topomax for migraines, and ended up calling it "Stupamax" because it made her so rummy. Lamictal has had some of the same effects on me, but I wouldn't trade it for Topomax even if it is weight-neutral. Of course, I'm sure the Geodon and Zyprexa don't do much to help my brain fog.....

So Geodon causes brain fog too? I was thinking about asking to try that -- my jerky insurance changed the tiering of Latuda and the price of it doubled to over 300 for 90 days!

I think the combination of Lamictal, Geodon and Zyprexa are probably responsible for a lot of my brain-fade, as I call it. Throw in a little Klonopin, and I wonder sometimes how the hell I wake up in the morning. LOL

I just started only 25mg of Topamax a week ago for the weight problem with seroquel. I haven't had the dopamax effect yet but I am exhausted all day even with caffeine and I'm having dizzy spells in the evenings which sucks because I climb ladders at work. Has anyone experienced this and did it go away because if it doesn't I'm done with this stuff.

I sometimes get moments of dizziness. I've also been getting nauseated. But it's only day 6 for me, I don't know if the dizziness goes away. It kind of feels like an opiate to me sometimes.
