Since last Friday my mood has plummeted and I find myself having crying fits regularly over almost nothing (like cute animals or moving songs, as well as sad stuff in my life). On Thursday I saw my pdoc and felt fine. We talked a lot about my rapid cycling and how it is worsening, and about my heavy drinking. He increased my Lithium and added Lamagtrigine (Lamictal) to try and combat the cycling. I have also nearly stopped drinking, taking a small amount of benzo's instead to combat withdrawal.

My mood is incredibly low, like deep despair low and I am wondering if the added meds might be responsible or the reduced/stopped alcohol intake...or perhaps it is just part of my usual rapid cycling. I am utterly exhausted too and had to skip university today as I couldn't bear to even get dressed, and couldn't stop crying. Sorry guys, I guess I just needed to vent.

Yes, I heard that. Thanks. I think I am on the Lithium to combat mania (and suicidal urges) and the Lamictal has been added to stop the low part of my cycle. It will take a while to get up to therapeutic dose though

Still feeling terrible, my fibromyalgia has flared up which only makes me feel worse. Trying not to stay alone too much as I am very fragile right now. I can only hope this depression passes soon as I am beginning to get suicidal urges due to hopelessness over my situation - had to skip uni yesterday and now call in sick today due to very low mood and utter exhaustion. This is hell

Are you in therapy? The lamictal slowed my episodes so they were "softer and longer" but my therapist helps me actually deal with the symptoms. Are you on any treatment for your flare up?

Thanks. I am in therapy. Once a week with an amazing therapist so I am very thankful for that. Seeing him tomorrow so will be able to go through my dramatic drop in mood and functioning. I am hoping the Lamictal will do the same for me but I will have to be patient as the titration up is very slow going. As for the flare up I see a Rhumatologist for the Fibromyalgia and don't see him until the 25th. I think it is the change in weather that is messing with my body. I am utterly shattered and in a lot of pain. I have pain killers to help but nothing takes away the exhaustion - even 3 coffees, if fact they make me feel worse. Thanks again for you reply!

Please elucidate. I understand the "softer", but what is the "longer" mean? Do you find your episodes are lengthened by the addition of Lamictal? I think I am finding this to be true for myself.

Do you find your episodes are lengthened by the addition of Lamictal? Yes, they are longer months vs weeks. I no longer have the time in between to prepare for the next episode. So it has become much harder in some ways (ie. keeping commitments) even after 3+ years on the med I'm still not use to it. I keep being reassured with therapy I'll get use to it but it hasn't happened yet. I guess it has something to do with having extremely good coping mechanisms before that no longer apply when 'healthy' or so I'm told.

Seeing my therapist today. Hopefully he will be able to help me manage this deep depression as I am becoming suicidal due to hopelessness and despair. I hate this illness It is robbing me of my life.
