So, took my first dose of 40mg geodon last night with dinner -- holy knock out drug!!! I felt drunk and I was slurring my words, I was wobbly on my feet...and then went to bed at 11 and slept all the way until 10:30 -- only waking up when my wife woke me up.
Okay -- so my question is, does this level of tiredness and drunkeness decrease as you adjust to the drug? I am little nervous to take the next dose with breakfast today for fear that I won't get jack$hit done around here today. Thanks for you responses! |

The first time I took geodon I slept for 22 hours straight. For probably 2 months after that I would fall asleep at 6pm and sleep til 10am. Now, 4 years of taking it later, it doesn't effect me like that at all anymore.

I had a similar first reaction to Geodon. It took about a week before it totally went away, About two months later, I'm on the maximum dose of 80mg twice a day and I don't get that effect at all anymore. So my experience is that it does go away as you adjust to it.

Geodon knocked me out at first, which was the original reason it was prescribed for me. (Oh yeah, and that pesky mania.) The effect didn't last long, and though I had some brief somnolence when the doses were increased, it wasn't for more than a couple of nights.

Geodon did make me tired, but I took it at night, and when I woke up I wasn't drugged up.

Because of my reaction at 40 the first night, like you describe, I backtracked to 20 mg for a week or two weeks, cannot remember to get used to it, then increased to 40, and then over time then increased it. I only take 40 - 60 mg depending on the time of year. This is considered a low dose by the standards for treating BP but works for me. Call your doc and let them know what happened. It is hard to do to get the right dose, but the capsules can be opened and split the dose, and dissolved in OJ or juice or put in apple sauce so doesn't taste as bad, until could get 20 mg capsules. Perhaps that might help. Stay safe and hope you find the right dose for you soon.

Geodon knocked me out about three hours after taking it which was weird that it would have such a delayed response. But once it hit I was down, there was nothing to do but sleep. I could only take it at night for awhile for that reason. It was about six weeks before that effect wore off and I could take it during the day as well.

I take 120 and I take it at night. I take a lot of meds so I don't know how drowsy itmakes me, but something in my handful puts me right to sleep.

Yeah....I stopped taking it last night....I found it was just looping me out too much! I mean, I couldn't even talk on it. The only reason I was prescribed it is because insurance wouldn't cover Abilify without me first attempting a different AP.
Friggen drug had me unable to even communicate, and it scared the hell out my wife. She said, I wasn't making any sense on it. I couldn't do anything at all, but lay in bed, with spordic surges of needing to do something.... Drove to get groceries and everything looked all bring and shiny -- I mean almost psychdelic-like. There was no way I could go to work on this drug.... My communication issues: I would be internally searching for a word, but could only say a word that was loosely associated with the appropriate word -- it was schizo-affective like behavior, like I was only able to communicate via abstractions and allusions to the concrete thing in question. Very odd....and scary... That's not helping me, that's hindering me worse than I was without the meds. I was put on this med after a two day ordeal of sheer dispondancy and paranoia I was going to lose my job....*shrug* -- Today, not having taken the drug since yseterday morning, I feel like $hit.....bad guts, nausea (no vomiting yet), blurry vision, shakey hands....inablity to focus on anything for any period of time. Have an appt with my T today -- I will ask about the drugs then. ![]() Phew...what a wild ride this weekend was. |

Yeah geodon withdrawal for me was not a fun experience either. And on top of all that it didn't actually do anything to help me. So all around a bad experience. Hope you're feeling better.

All the anti-psychotics tend to make me sleepy. Start slow with them because for me they're the meds that cause the most complications.

I take 160 mgs all at night. I cannot tolerate it during the day as it makes me too sleepy. The pharmacy actually questioned my pdoc on the dose at night but ultimately filled the prescription.

I love Geodon and thankfully I don't experience any side effects. At first it made a little drowsy though, but now it's all gone.

I think it's one of those drugs that either works for you or doesn't and when it doesn't, it's very bad!
