I'm in too much emotional pain right now to post details about whats going on and what's been going on over the past week and it would be extremely triggering to go into details.

My treating team want me screened for BPD - I've been diagnosed BP1 by pdoc but to be honest he never really went through my past when I saw him last year and has never picked up on it.

Was only picked up after a critical response team went through extensive questioning with my husband and I that they are picking up traits and tendencies that lean towards BPD.

I HATE MY PDOC SO MUCH RIGHT NOW.

Sorry but I just need someone to reach out to and I'm not sure where else to go and thought maybe someone out here has a dual diagnosis and I don't know. Say something. Anything. Please.

Luckily I've been referred to a practice that deal exclusively with BPD screening - hopefully they will be able to pick up the difference if any. It doesn't appear cut and dry with overlaps.

I think it's overlapping all Over the place when it comes to bipolar and BPD. There are so many similarities that it is hard to decipher what symptom goes with what disorder. I had good Bpd diagnosis until last week when my doctor told me she had officially removed it. I have been tracking my moods three times a day for a long time and she's been studying them and keeping watch over my symptoms etc. and I meet the criteria for very rapid cycling bipolar one but not Bpd. It's a really difficult thing they're even experience doctors to figure out. Just my opinion

I had BPD for years but with extensive therapy and the right meds I recovered and am now in remission. My bipolar on the other hand is still not inde control and is causing me hell...but yes there was a time when I clearly had both diagnosises. There is hope. Hang in there. I hope you find the help you need.

I just feel that I'm probably not on the right meds and need appropriate therapy.

Sometimes you just need to crash slap bang at the bottom when you have nothing else left to realise something's got to give.

Have you worked with a therapist on using DBT to cope? It's great and useful to anyone! It's highly suggested people with bpd learn to use DBT!

Hallie - have no idea what that is but I'm open to all suggestions. Apparently support groups and therapy sessions in my area for people with BPD. Will wait and see what the outcome is once I've gone for my assessment. Did the online assessment on psych central but I don't think that's much to go by. Need a specialist to officially diagnose me. Or not.

Not the type of news one hopes to hear about, but knowledge is power, because we can't fight effectively if we're not familiar with the opponant or the battle ground.

axis1 - BP1
axis2 - BPD

for me the BPD isnt really an issue since my 30s and its what they refer to as latent, however when im episodic with the BP, the BPD is magnified and comes into play. i have mixed episodes and borderline characteristics really seem to come through then.

its just a DSM way to catagorise illnesses
1 = main psych diagnosis excluding personality disorders
2 = personality disorders and cognative illness (retardation etc)
3 = somatic illness and disorders
4 = psycho-social problems (think bad home situation, finacial problems, no support networks etc)

and then you have a GAF score that says where youre functioning. they say "normal" is around 75 to 85 as 100 is unattainable.
