What are some of your other symptoms? Irritability can be a sign of bipolar but also depression and a whole host of other things. Why does your pdoc think bipolar?

Ok. Arguing could be bipolar. I guess I'll just let you know that mania or hypomania doesn't have to be euphoric. It can show up as irritability, restlessness, agitation, decreased sleep, etcetera. So if you're experiencing that, you could have bipolar.

My mania often shows up as extreme irritability rather than euphoria so it is possible your doctor is correct. Less need for sleep is another symptom too.

I am a bipolar who for awhile al mds thought was depression. I have never had euphoric mania, been hypomanic-def not sleeping, more irritable, mad at world, thinking how to get even with all who wronged me, yet at same time, at work I would have more energy get lots done, could have rapid speech/change topics quickly and many many yrs ago, shopped a lot. Not out all night shopping more like, go to store with list-buy what I need then buy 3-5other things. I say all this to let you know that even psychiatrists did not see my bipolar originally...prob becuz I was like 80% depression and 20% hypomanic but just came off as depresed to most people. I have been reading some of the educational material on pc about bipolar, I have found it helpful. You can get there from the home page, lists topics you can click on. As was mentioned, try tracking your moods and bring it with you to md. Good luck.

Yes, mania frequently shows itself as extreme irritability. It does with me.

Other signs can be racing thoughts and being easily distracted.
Sometimes there's lots of unfinished projects. Also, changing or quitting jobs abruptly and frequently can be another sign.
