I think that I may be bipolar and it's causing problems in my marriage. I don't know if I'm bipolar or not, but I have noticed some mood variations over the past year. I will got through "manias", during which I will not stop. I cook, clean, plan family outings, volunteer, and go on spending sprees. This will last for a week or two. Then, I go into these down moods. All I want to do is sleep. I don't want to eat, play with the kids, or even bathe, I know ew. All I want to do is sleep and watch TV. I don't know what to do. My husband says it's getting too much for him to handle,. I don't want to lose my marriage because of mood swings. My mother, father, grandma, grandpa, and 2 aunts have been diagnosed bipolar. I thought that I had dodged those genes, but maybe not. What do I do now? Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to PC!

You should probably go to your doctor and tell them about all this.

Does anything in particular trigger these mood shifts?

Any stressful event can trigger these events. I.E. Fight with husband, car trouble, sick relative, money problems, anything stressful.

welcome to psych central!

I think a (pdoc)psychiatrist evaluation would be best, could you schedule an appointment, some times it takes a while to be seen, in the mean while you could use the mood tracker tool to keep tract of things then print that out when you finally get into be seen.
I also firmly believe in getting a therapist so that you can help to deal with these issues, maybe even have your hubby join you after a bit.
Bipolar is definately in your family! wow!

You definately sound just like me before I got my meds stable. The cooking and cleaning, etc.. I also volunteered at my child's school only to drop out weeks later due to depresion. I didn't like to bathe either. Everything was an effort. My depressions are what really bothered my husband. He hated to see me laying around all the time and sleeping.
Bizi gave some good advise, I'd act on that.
Thanks for this!
