OMG, I wasn't thinking it was a big deal- lately I've been forgetful about whether or not I've done little things around the house and whatnot and then I'll remember- but just now I got a text from my brother about a thank you card I sent him and his wife for a nice gift card I got for my birthday and I seriously thought I didn't send them one. I have no recollection of doing so! Sorta freaky. Does this happen to anyone else here? I'm worried this may be a symptom of something else. . . .

You're diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder right? I think there's a link to memory loss, at least with people on this board. Here's a link to a thread: http://forums.psychcentral.com/schiz...er-memory.html

What meds are you on? My memory goes to **** during med changes and if I am on heavy duty AP's and Benzos. Mush right now.

I go on posting sprees on fb (luckily nothing bad, just sharing silly photos etc) then wonder why on earth I have so many notifications in the morning. I cant recall anything said over the phone. I cant remember passwords. I am constantly looking for my keys, phone, drink, wallet etc. It takes a lot of prompting for me to remember past events.

I wont remember this in the morning.

What Supanova said. ^^

Forgetful is my middle name. I can read a chapter in a book and forget what I read at the beginning of it before I get to the end. I have to keep Post-It notes everywhere, and then I forget to look at them. Can't remember phone numbers, passwords, even my car license plates. Drives me NUTS!! I know it's from the meds and the disease process rather than dementia, but that doesn't make me feel any better. You are definitely not alone!

I forget things every day. I can't remember many things from years past, yet the memory evaluation I had last summer showed that my memory was excellent. For me, it started after 12 sessions of ECT, even though it is supposed to only cause short-term memory loss for a short while.

I have just about the worst short and long term memory in the world. It makes me sad when I can't remember things my partner and I did together or when someone has to repeat something 3 times to me cause I can't remember. Not good.

Yup. ECT wiped out my experiential memory. I remember facts like such and such happened, I mostly remember names passwords how to get places, but the experience of most of my life events is gone. Marriages, having babies, places I have been to, gone.

I have difficulty with memory also. If you are worried about this symptom, I feel it is best to bring it up to your doctor.

Best of luck. I know all too well how frustrating this symptom is. My meds don't help my memory unfortunately, but I do notice my memory is sharper the more stable I am.

I'm not on any meds . . .. besides healthy organic foods (for the most part)
I'm not too forgetful, usually just momentarily- I've gotten better at training my brain t o remember things when I am (good trick I learned back when I used to smoke weed, lol)- but the fact that I don't even have any recollection of mailing the thank you card is a bit scary- even if I forget I'll later remember . . .

I agree. Sometimes I am at the checkout line and can't remember the numbers to my debit card. This happens every few months. UGH.

OMG thats the worst, I have the same problem. Its worse when its at the pdocs office cos I get so scared they wont see me if I dont pay upfront. In saying that they have always seen me and let me pay later when this happens but it always triggers anxiety in me. I still cant remember my pin for one of my cards at all, so frustrating.

And then forget to look at them! YES! Passwords... I even have them written down and it makes sense at the time what I put, but later I usually can't decipher enough and still can't get in. I DO know my license plate number, but this is the first one that's true of (it's relatable). I had a New Year's resolution one year to memorize my own phone number(!) Took weeks. Yikes. (I was so relieved when I changed my number and new one had rhythm and a section of counting sequence.

Heh. It's not all that unusual that if I put in for cash back, I will (what? 10 seconds later?) have no idea why they're holding cash out at me(!!) Or I'll start to leave and they'll call me back. I feel like such an idiot.

Well, it sort of makes sense to not remember your phone number. I mean, who calls their own cell phone??! (That is, of course, the reason why I can't remember mine. LOL)

Heheh. Except I just hate having someone ask, and not having an answer(!)

But even remembering, it'll go like this……….."uhhhhh"... blank expression, follow by the look of thinking hard(!) Probably rolling my eyes up saying, "uhhhh... , ###", "uhhhh…"" pause, ###, then closing my eyes and rushing out the last 4, having determined that Yes!, that's it!

Oh, and my last p doc did say that but it was tentative- I seemingly had some traits. Sometimes I think I do, other times, I think I have like PTSD or something .. .

ECT is barbaric and should be illegal! I'm sorry you had to go through that! ( I actually was under the impression is wasn't used anymore)

You really should'nt be taking so many medications - they probably do more harm than good at that volume . . .

Again, I can;t believe anyone in this day an age is still being given ECT! It's barbaric at best and doesn't help the person, it only causes more damage- it was put in place centuries ago to 'stabilize' the said patient- which is really another term for rendering the patient immobile, as to not pose a threat (imagined or otherwise) towards others. This was invented back before there was as much data and understanding about the wide variety of mental illnesses and other methods of treatment. There is very little scientific evidence any good has ever come out of it, and I'm curious as to what states it is even still a regular practice in. I'm sorry you were convinced to take part in such a volatile, ignorant and overall harmful (and outdated) practice.

Ah, the sad embarrassing biproduct of our modern technological society. Though I make a point to dial the numbers of close family like my mom and my bf . . . that and Ive always been good with numbers . ..

It could be a medication. I started on Depakote a few months ago and I have tolerated it well with one exception - I am starting to forget stuff. I've done things I've NEVER done in 25 years. I bounced two checks last month (I feel shame) and I overslept a week ago and swore it was Saturday when it was Tuesday. My wife, a saint for putting up with my nonsense for the last 18 years, sent me a note at work asking me how my Saturday was going.
