OMG, I wasn't thinking it was a big deal- lately I've been forgetful about whether or not I've done little things around the house and whatnot and then I'll remember- but just now I got a text from my brother about a thank you card I sent him and his wife for a nice gift card I got for my birthday and I seriously thought I didn't send them one. I have no recollection of doing so! Sorta freaky. Does this happen to anyone else here? I'm worried this may be a symptom of something else. . . .

You're diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder right? I think there's a link to memory loss, at least with people on this board. Here's a link to a thread: http://forums.psychcentral.com/schiz...er-memory.html

What meds are you on? My memory goes to **** during med changes and if I am on heavy duty AP's and Benzos. Mush right now.
I go on posting sprees on fb (luckily nothing bad, just sharing silly photos etc) then wonder why on earth I have so many notifications in the morning. I cant recall anything said over the phone. I cant remember passwords. I am constantly looking for my keys, phone, drink, wallet etc. It takes a lot of prompting for me to remember past events. I wont remember this in the morning. |

What Supanova said. ^^
Forgetful is my middle name. I can read a chapter in a book and forget what I read at the beginning of it before I get to the end. I have to keep Post-It notes everywhere, and then I forget to look at them. Can't remember phone numbers, passwords, even my car license plates. Drives me NUTS!! I know it's from the meds and the disease process rather than dementia, but that doesn't make me feel any better. You are definitely not alone!

I forget things every day. I can't remember many things from years past, yet the memory evaluation I had last summer showed that my memory was excellent. For me, it started after 12 sessions of ECT, even though it is supposed to only cause short-term memory loss for a short while.

I have just about the worst short and long term memory in the world. It makes me sad when I can't remember things my partner and I did together or when someone has to repeat something 3 times to me cause I can't remember. Not good.

Yup. ECT wiped out my experiential memory. I remember facts like such and such happened, I mostly remember names passwords how to get places, but the experience of most of my life events is gone. Marriages, having babies, places I have been to, gone.

I have difficulty with memory also. If you are worried about this symptom, I feel it is best to bring it up to your doctor.
Best of luck. I know all too well how frustrating this symptom is. My meds don't help my memory unfortunately, but I do notice my memory is sharper the more stable I am. |

![]() I'm not too forgetful, usually just momentarily- I've gotten better at training my brain t o remember things when I am (good trick I learned back when I used to smoke weed, lol)- but the fact that I don't even have any recollection of mailing the thank you card is a bit scary- even if I forget I'll later remember . . .

OMG thats the worst, I have the same problem. Its worse when its at the pdocs office cos I get so scared they wont see me if I dont pay upfront. In saying that they have always seen me and let me pay later when this happens but it always triggers anxiety in me. I still cant remember my pin for one of my cards at all, so frustrating.

Heh. It's not all that unusual that if I put in for cash back, I will (what? 10 seconds later?) have no idea why they're holding cash out at me(!!) Or I'll start to leave and they'll call me back. I feel like such an idiot. |

Well, it sort of makes sense to not remember your phone number. I mean, who calls their own cell phone??! (That is, of course, the reason why I can't remember mine. LOL)

Heheh. Except I just hate having someone ask, and not having an answer(!)
![]() But even remembering, it'll go like this……….."uhhhhh"... blank expression, follow by the look of thinking hard(!) Probably rolling my eyes up saying, "uhhhh... , ###", "uhhhh…"" pause, ###, then closing my eyes and rushing out the last 4, having determined that Yes!, that's it! ![]() |

Oh, and my last p doc did say that but it was tentative- I seemingly had some traits. Sometimes I think I do, other times, I think I have like PTSD or something .. .

It could be a medication. I started on Depakote a few months ago and I have tolerated it well with one exception - I am starting to forget stuff. I've done things I've NEVER done in 25 years. I bounced two checks last month (I feel shame) and I overslept a week ago and swore it was Saturday when it was Tuesday. My wife, a saint for putting up with my nonsense for the last 18 years, sent me a note at work asking me how my Saturday was going.
