What have been your experiences on these medications. I have bipolar1. And BPD. Currently I am on wellbutrin xl tegretol and seroquel. Take neuron tin for anxiety because I am not allowed any benzos. Not sure how it is working yet. So far I see some improvement with tegretol as far as not being s.......but anxiety seems worse and feel flat irritable and paranoid. Looking for suggestions. I don't think there is anything that hasn't been used but I am willing to try again. I also have to pay out of pocket for my meds. Have no insurance. I just want to feel better.

Why no benzos they're so big for anxiety disorders? I take lamictal and love it. I have bipolar and It levels my moods out better than anything else w minimal side effects for me. I've had risperdal in the past and not great for me however antipsychotic meds always seem to have terrible side effects for me. The risperdal made me zombie like. In a daze.

Lamictal is the only med I am on and its seems to be helpful Its just not a Fast med you have to slowly titrate up and most people dont notice anything for about a month on average. Risperdone caused me lactation so that got tossed out pronto.

Have you ever tried Visteril or Buspar for anxiety? They are not a benzio

I'm on risperdal and I would have to say that it works for me. Also I'm not allowed benzo anymore but try buspar or visteral I take both and they work great for anxiety.

It is not a good idea to add Risperidone to Seroquel, but adding Lamictal to your mix does seem like a good idea. Since Lamictal works towards lifting the bipolar depression, maybe the irritability and flatness would go away thanks to Lamictal. It is worth trying, as long as you realize that it is a slow titration drug with no instant miracles to expect (as explained by Christina already).

I thought that anxiety can be a side effect of neurontin. Not sure.

Risperidone is an AP so it could work towards eliminating paranoia, and, it is cheap, as far as AP's go, but then you would need to stop Seroquel. I would definitely try Lamictal first, before trying Risperdal. It is far more benign, in terms of the side effects profile.

I love my lamictal/risperdone combo. The lamictal helps maintain a level mood while the risperdone helps with the paranoia and delusions. I had a small dose of seriquel on top of it but my new doc took me off it since it and the risperdone did the same thing. I like the combo and definitely give lamictal a try.

Hi Christina,

Did you experience severe anxiety when you started the Lamictal? I thought it was supposed to be calming but it feels like it's irritating my brain, if that makes sense.
