I finally came clean about my self medicating and how bad I'm feeling to my therapist. I told her everything. My psychiatrist is away on leave at the moment but shes wrote him a memo to contact me regarding adding a mood stabiliser to my current concoction of meds.

Finally some help might be on the horizon, I feel like crying.

Good for you ! Took courage to open up and be honest. I hope your Pdoc returns soon and you and he/she can help you come up with a plan that will help you.

sorandOm I can't tell you how awesome this is! I self-medicated for years and it about did me in. The right medication will make all the difference in your life, and without medication, bipolar really is not a manageable or controllable condition. To me one of the great tragedies of bipolar is that so many of us resist going on meds, and have so much trouble staying on them. Support and therapy can help, sure, but without the cornerstone of meds there just can't be any long-term recovery.

He's back next week which isn't too far away but I'd rather it be sooner so I can get my head sorted.

I'm not a very good bipolar, I don't really comply with meds and I fought tooth and nail when I was on zyprexa and I only took it because I was hypomanic at the time and got told that I take them or get sectioned under the mental health act...

I'm willing to try anything but that awful drug. I know I needed it then in hindsight but it made me a walking zombie.

I want to get better though, I really do. I can't take it anymore.

I try my best to steer clear of AP but sometimes you can't. What are you currently on? Have you self medicated since?

The only thing good about zyprexa is that it brought me down to earth very quickly...

I'm on some anti anxiety medication, effexor, lyrica and propranolol along with valium as needed.

I hope it's not time for an AP again, it doesn't help with my depression, just the fun side of my bipolar.
