I was just diagnosed BP I in January of this year. I've had a lifetime of mental health issues, mainly depression and mood disorder type diagnosis. But until I got this BP diagnosis, I was never medicated like I have been and am now.

I feel like I am getting worse. But I wonder...How much of my worsening problem is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Am I getting worse because they said I am worse?

I used to be a pretty ok person. Sure, I had my mood swings, but they were mood swings. Now I am a zombified wreck. I'm suicidal. I'm hearing music that isn't there. My hair is falling out.

Part of me just wants to deny this diagnosis, walk away from it and these medications, and go back and find the real me. I must be in here somewhere.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

I'll give you my honest opinion. If you're taking all of those meds, you are over medicated. I'm sure some people will argue that point.

Personally, I would find a pdoc who is more conservative with the meds.

Go to the Crazy Meds website and read about the side effects of some of the meds you are on. No wonder you feel like hell.

I'm not sure where it was mentioned what meds your on (checked a few posts and profile) but if your on 20mg of Saphris AND two other AP meds than id be suprised if your weren't tripping out. I got to 15mg saphris and had to go back to 10 after experiencing paranoia. And I wss only on one AP. I was later told it had something to do with a drug interaction as well, but I was seeing and hearing things that weren't there, and became terrified of the dark.

Honestly, if your not happy with where your at meds wise, go back to your pdoc and tell him everything thats going on. If he won't take you seriously then its time to get a new pdoc. Its your body, they can recommend the meds but its you who needs to be in control.

Hope you can get through this and back on trackGetting worse - is it all in my head?

Your current cocktail is heavy hitting stuff. I would have a sit down with your Pdoc and review each one and decide what therapy treatment you both can agree on that will be best for you.

Take care

Thanks, everyone. I'm feeling better on Abilify. Decided to work with my doc to create a plan to wean myself off a significant number of these meds. I know what works [Lamictal, Abilify] and what I want to get rid of [Klonopin]. I'm willing to work with her to create a plan to get a more reasonable cocktail. I greatly appreciate all the input.

Dx is not who you are or what you are. We are not our BP, our BP is part of us. Nothing has changed just because of a dx. Meds have side effects and if anything it could be the side effects of the medication that can cause some changes. Be strong and be honest. You have the strength and wisdom if you seek it out. I'll be thinking of ya. Good luck.
