I have bipolar II. Because it is so well managed with meds and therapy, my elderly mother and my syblings do not get why I needed to leave a well-paying yet very stressful 2nd shift job. Even though I have a spiritual program, I feel extremely anxious and guilty and cannot distinguish between that and self-pity.

tell your parents u are NOT HAPPY .........the job u have now is not what u want to do ......u are not happy with your life
if your parents are of the same cloth as alot of the older crowd ...the fact u are not happy is more important then the funds that come in if they are still all about the money and all that tell them it is your life the job is done and they are removed from the will thanks for showing true colors greedy money hungry ppl |

Both my father and my brother are very successful - one's a CEO of a credit union and the other is a dentist/business manager for the practice/faculty at the med school. Then there is me who is the black sheep, if you will, of the family in more ways than I care to admit. Neither of them really acknowledge the bipolar, but if I told them I was quitting my job I think they would be more concerned about my ability to provide for myself as opposed to being money hungry- they each make significantly more than I do. They want me to be successful in all aspects of my life and that includes being able to provide for myself.
They also wouldn't recommend leaving one job until I have another one lined up. I've heard the "it's much easier to find a job while you are employed" line more times than I care to admit. But again, this comes out of their concern for me. |

Only you know what's best for you.
Don't expect other people in your life to get it because unfortunately this most certainly isn't the case. You've identified your threshold and so be it. Regain the power by acknowledging your feelings and if you're not getting support on the home front find a good T to speak to. And you can always speak to us here! ![]() |
