I'm sorry. I hope you can gather your thoughts together, have a heart to heart with your husband. What's problematic is that no approach to developing a new career is the obvious front runner- there's so many variables to account for.

It may not hurt to consider what's out there job wise- that way so you can compare the pros & cons with your pros and cons. If you got a temporary assignment for the holiday season- maybe consider a Sephora, or a receptionist at a salon working weekends- that may actually help enhance your course work since you would have some real life experience.

Just don't feel if you apply to a job like you have to take it. Try to resist being impulsive- I know its easier said than done- but don't let this stress you out. just think of it as exploring some possibilities so you and your DH can arrive at the best decision together.

I'm not sure how much of a living you can make in your country, but in the USA is can be a very good paying job that allows a person to be creative and mostly make your own hours, that's a plus.

I'm sorry this has happened
Can you get your license and find a related job, for a few hours on a weekend? It kind of lets you try it without risk, and may even allow you to make good contacts

Most salons here employ graduates who have completed a 1 year beautician course at a cost of $18,000.

My husband has been a lot more supportive over the last few days.

He realizes with me that when I lost my job in September- I wasn't only losing my job - there's every possibility I've lost 15 years worth of my teaching career.

We crunched numbers this weekend. Let's say hypotheticly for the first few months I see 8 clients with an "average" cost of $40 per treatment- depending on what it is - this would turn into a "hobby" because all I would be doing is working to pay off the interest of the loan.

We haven't entirely shut the door permanently. I got an Australian Business Licence Number and have locked in the business name with a patent. Also creating a website for the business so that I've locked in the www address.

I've been keeping an eye out on other jobs. Admin kinds really. But they're all saying things like minimum of 2 years experience or blah blah blah!

I am not sure if Australia have the same law as here in the USA , but....

Here you can "own" a salon and you do not have to have a license. You can't do any of the styling of course.

Many here take a loan to purchase an established Salon and already having money coming in that will be generating an income while your able to go school to become licensed.

My Mom and I were a salon owner. I did nails ( here it was a 8 week class) My mom paid her stylish a % of the money they made , so no X amount of salary. The more hours the stylist wanted to work made he/she more money.

My long term goal would be to own my own salon. It's just such a highly competitive market. But that's the risk with any business I guess.
