it is not the starting side effects u got to worry about it is the 3 month 6 month and 9 month checks that count .........at this point u are still on a low dose if the system adapts to it they up it that is when side effects show up

lithium and depakote are some horrible things to me ..........i never seen anyone except now u say nothing bad about it ........count your self lucky

My dr likes it for me and is considering upping it to 1800mg. Ima say no.

Lithium & Depakote now three years give or take. On another med but can't recall it at this time. I have been doing very well. Guessing I am BP II (the less serious?) and emotions steady over all. Feel better and wife happier. Isn't Lithium the one to take blood test every so often in order not to have too much build up which can damage kidneys?

i was on lithium, 450mg. for 35 yrs. and never tried another mood stabilizer. only had hypomania and no depression; work out daily and carry water with me everywhere when i was on it. over the years it destroyed my thyroid, had to have most of my parathyroids removed from high calcium caused by lithium and only recently had high creatine and other kidney issues…stopped it completely 1 yr. ago and noticed the anger/resentment that i would have upon waking up before ever taking that 1 pill, have gone away. never had weight gain issues…had thin hair besides the more serious issues. make sure your p/doc informs you of these terrible side effects or do your own research re thyroid, parathyroid and kidney issues.
