I am not coming off my medication currently. I know I ****ed up with Miguel finding out I want(ed) him in boarding school.

I would like to know what skills can supplement medicationIf I can get to the point I can use coping to deal I'd be happy. I hate being severe on paper but looking "well" in person. I wish T's were mind readers. I'm told I'm very self aware but I feel therapy took all my coping skills and haven't left me with anything but "take this". I sit here watching my son tore up wondering if I don't know healthy coping skills.

I walk & hike a lot, draw, journal, paint, exercise, listen to music, put myself in time out, meditate & am working on verbalizing my needs & feelings-generally I keep everything bottled up (just like my Mom-gasp) but now I'm working really hard at talking about the "difficult stuff" both with my husband, daughter & therapist. I also find this site extremely helpful especially when I'm in one of those moods where I feel isolated & alone with my illness. And it probably sounds dumb but when I'm upset sometimes I go outside & blow bubbles it really helps me for some reason.

It might sound boring, but my number one coping skill is going for a long walk with my dog and climbing a very steep hill until I'm almost out of breath. It settles me down inside and puts air in my brain so that I can think things through instead of acting impulsively. I do this twice a day, for a total of 2 and half hours.

Other than that, if I can catch myself from overreacting, I take deep breaths and stretch my arms over my head. If that's enough to make me pause, I tell myself to take whatever issue it is and--for the moment--pretend that it just doesn't matter. If it's still an issue in an hour or so, I will deal with it, but hopefully with a clearer head.
