So...Thursday night, I was triggered by a hard class after a tiring, stressful week, and along with cutting myself, I took a lot of Xanax, like the rest of the bottle I had. It probably wasn't more than 20 pills, but I woke up extremely dizzy yesterday afternoon. I've been depressed, down, weak, confused, tired, etc since then. Plus, I've been having trouble sleeping. Is this from an overdose? I'm I going to be okay? How long will this take to get out of my system?

I don't know, but if you don't feel safe you may want to call your doctor or go to an ER. Hugs.

I was in an ER last night because someone called the police on me because of the cutting. I didn't tell the hospital about the pills I took or else I doubt I'd have gotten to leave...

Xanax is a controlled substance, and every time you take more than a prescribed dose, you absolutely should contact a healthcare provider. Please call a hospital or your pdoc. This is an emergency so treat it as such. Good luck. |

It's possible you could suffer seizures or another effect of the overdose. You'd be doing yourself a favor by contacting a doctor. Is there a specific reason you took the overdose?

Xanax for sure is a downer.
Due to the circumstances going on here I am only able to advise you that you get a check over from a qualified mental practitioner. We could all speculate many things but we don't really have enough knowledge to advise on the physical inner damage, if any, this may have caused. |

If you took all your Xanax then you have none left???? Stopping Xanax cold turkey is very unsafe, you can have seizures
I think you need to go be seen and be honest about what you did. Trust me there is nothing you can tell a heath care provider that they have not heard before . Stay safe

I only take Xanax very rarely so I'm not stopping cold turkey. Plus, I have another bottle.
I think I'm fine. I've been having trouble sleeping, but that's about it.

I'm sitting here with my mouth gaping open wanting to say something but not sure what. First...how do you have 2 bottles of Xanax? Or at least you are down to 1 now. That is dangerous, especially now. I know exactly how this works you want sleep, 20 pills didn't help, I lived and nothing bad happened, so I can safely take more next time. That is not how it works! It is faulty logic! Many of us here know that and have been through that.
Your brain is not functioning correctly right now. You are not making sound judgments. It happens. At this point and time, you might think you are OK, but you really aren't. Just reading what you have posted here makes me feel desperate for you. You were actually at the hospital and didn't tell them you took an OD on Xanax? You obviously care enough about yourself to come here and ask us about it and if you'd be OK. Take care of yourself and do the right thing. If you don't go to the emergency room, at the very minimum, go to the doctor who prescribed the medication and discuss what happened. If you are having sleep issues that Xanax isn't helping with, they can work with you on something else. If you pop more pills irresponsibly, they probably won't want to prescribe much of anything to you. Act responsibly and you will be treated responsibly. If you aren't able to think clearly, trust the people you turn to, and heed their advice. You came here looking for help, and these people responded in a way that was in your best interest. Take the advice...that's what we are here for. I just feel so bad for you. We (I) have been in your shoes more than once. The road you are on is not good. Take the advice and get some help now before you travel further along. The caution signs are there. Yikes! |

I have an appointment with my psychiatrist on Thursday, and I'm going to talk to his nurse tomorrow morning, and I will mention what I did. Mostly I need to talk to the nurse/ doctor because I need advice about what I should do about finishing the semester. I have a final and a few written assignments I'm not sure if I should attempt to complete knowing they could stress me and send me back into a state where I could want to cut myself or take a bunch of pills again. But I might be okay! I'm so unstable that my moods switch almost daily...
