I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and I will do my best to not be offensive.Long story short I've recently realized that most of the decisions in my life have been influenced in some way by bipolar. I am getting help but as of now I am unmedicated. I am having issues with severe depression and I am married and my libido is in the pits...its really bad and I guess I'm worried that the medication will make it worse or just will stablize my mood but will leave my sex drive in shambles.

It is OK to be concerned about medication and how it will affect your sex drive. I found that it wasn't so much the medication that was keeping my libido at bay, but my mood. Once my mood was more regulated, then I could work to gain and control the sex urges.

The good news is that you can do lots of things to increase the sex drive. Talk to your doctor about it, but one of the biggest things that helped me was exercise. May sound a little cliche, but lower back, ab and pelvic strengthening/stretching might help also. If you need/want to explore sex toys to help, they can be very useful for you and your partner.
Thanks for this!

If we're talking about meds, some meds affect sex drive more than others. So, it's just something you may want to ask your doc about.

most of the time i could wear out my partner ......so far i have only found 4 ladies that made me crawl out of the bedroom begging no more please no more

but odds it is just the depression that is killing it for yah .........that is when mine goes down

as for the meds what ones are u going to be on ? .......i done alot of different ones over he years the only ones to ever effect me in that way are the same ones that make u a zombie when the doses get high

Not something I talk about all that often.....

Sounds like the type of thing you can discuss with your Pdoc and Therapist. Let your partner know you are concerned and wanting to do something about it as well. Most meds will have a sedating effect, but that does not necessarily mean a lower sex drive. Feeling better about yourself, feeling better about your body, that would increase anyone's libido. So there is a good chance the good that comes from feeling better will more than offset any effect medication will have.

You also have the option of Testosterone injections or similar from your GP, and it would be worthwhile having them checked at your next doctors appointment.

As your depression is causing issues with your libido, any medication to help you get out of that state of mind is most likely a benefit to your libido in the long run. However, there are some meds that do cause sexual issues such as lowered sex drive and delayed ejaculation - you need to speak to your doctor about this before agreeing to take a new medication as he/she will be able to prescribe one that affects sex drive less.

A decrease in sex drive is extremely common in anybody suffering from depression. Strangely it's never really affected me in that department. I find it very therapeutic.
