The past few weeks, I've been having trouble staying asleep and I've waking up too early, which means I almost never get enough sleep. I'm confused as to why this is happening now so it has almost never happened before. It has been happening at the same time as I've been taking Lamictal. Does that med cause insomnia in others? Does it go away? Will taking it in the morning help this?

I don't think my doctor thinks Lamictal is causing the sleep disturbances, but I think he is wrong.

Are you in a hypomanic phase, or is it just insomnia? It could be the meds but is more likely linked to your mood disorder. How long have you been on Lamictal? Are you really noticing the lack of sleep during the day, or functioning fine? Hope it settles down soon.

It started maybe a week or so into taking lamictal I think, maybe later, but i didn't really have this problem this severely without it. I experience mixed episodes much more strongly than hypomania, and they are only made that much worse by not sleeping.

I'm on 250mg lamictal & it doesn't interfere with my sleep schedule. I checked the side effects of lamictal on the net & it said nothing about insomnia. Might it be one of the other meds you're on?

There is a site called Askapatient.com type in your med name and click, then click patient reviews and you can see if others are experiencing same symptoms

I didn't take Lamictal last night, and I mostly slept through the night...I'm going to take it now in the morning.

That's a good idea. If you go too long without good sleep do you have other meds to help you sleep? or any other ways you can get some sleep. Too many days without good sleep strung together can cause big problems, as I'm sure you know.

I'm glad you found a way to sleep. I, too, take my lamictal in the morning. Hopefully you'll continue getting your Zzzzzzzz's.

I take my lamictal in the morning. I do to through sleep phases though all the time. Sometimes I can't fall asleep. Sometimes I can't stay asleep. Sometimes I wake up at 5 am and can't fall back to sleep. And sometimes it is just normal. So I don't know. I take an extended release melatonin if I need it and it generally really helps me both fall asleep and stay asleep. Sometimes it doesn't cut the mustard though and I add a little klonopin or Benadryl to it. This is all pdoc advised by the way.

Good luck. It sucks when sleep is so important and yet so hard to get.

I have no problem getting to sleep. I take seroquel & temazepam at night. I do, however, have problems staying asleep, as you related, Capriciousness. It comes & goes in phases. It's odd, but what works for me is changing locations. From bed to the recliner, & back again. Strange.
