I was newly diagnosed recently. I am noticing that my hair is falling out in chunks when I take a shower. It is making me so depressed now I am crying all the time. I have beautiful long black hair and now it is getting destroyed. Even my hair texture seems different.

I am on depakote, seroquel, and wellbutrin.

Anyone experience this on those meds? I just want to quit taking them all now

Feeling so hopeless.

I've heard hair loss can be a side effect of Depakote

you don't have to take any drug you don't want to, tell the doctor to suggest another. If doctor refusing find a new doctor.

I had hair loss when I was taking depakote and lithium. I thought it was the lithium because it started after the lithium doseage was increased, but both drugs can cause it. Even after you stop the drug the hair loss can continue for some time (several months for me) but eventually it does stop. Takes a while to regrow though.

Yeah I had it on depakote. After about 6 months into taking it. I quit taking it and eventually the hair stopped falling out and started growing back.

This summer I ended up in a severe mania. I was put back on depakote in the hospital. But the pdoc in the hospital started me on vitamins to stop the hair loss. I've read online that it works for some and doesn't for others. So far it's working.

For me lamictal just wasn't strong enough.

Hope you can get it to stop soon.

Make sure you contact your pdoc before stopping any medication. Messing with your medication can be very dangerous. Most of the time you have to slowly taper off of medication. You will probably need to be put on another medication to replace the Depakote. Please, please contact your pdoc.
Thanks for this!
