Hi everyone, I was diagnosed as being Bipolar about a year ago. Since then it has changed to Schizoaffective Bipolar Type. I am wondering if its really Bipolar 1 or if its actually II? When I recall my manic episode, it may have been simply psychosis. I feel like Bipolar Type II fits me more as my episodes are more hyper, feeling on top of the world and agitated at the same time and not a lot of sleep but not full blown out of control mania. I am going to discuss this with my new pdoc tomorrow morning.

I'm diagnosed as bipolar II. I find I'm mostly depressed with little hypomanic moods at times. Right now I'm pretty stable after the last med change. I have had truly manic phases but it has been many years so they changed my diagnosis. They used to have me a bipolar I.

I think talking to your pdoc will help you find out how to define it.

I've found it doesn't really matter what they diagnose me with because they use the same treatment. But it does help to know what's going on.

My BPII symptoms consist of me feeling like I can jump over the mountains and pull all the ladies... I can do anything. I talk too much, I feel more charming than I actually am. Smarter than I actually am. The dangerous part is that I'm tall, dark, handsome, I play guitar in a great charlotte area rock band, I also ride a sweet looking harley. Oh yeah and I WAS happily married with 6 kids. I'm still married but that's only because my wife is amazing and very loyal to me even though I do not deserve the loyalty she has shown me.

Joe that sums up me pretty well too. Instead of jumping mountains though I think I can accomplish impossible tasks and deadlines (and somehow usually do to the detriment of my loved ones). But the confidence and charm thing I get that way too. My marriage is falling apart because of this. I just barely went to get help and I'm starting to feel better and I can tell now how much damage I've left in my wake. Another thing is I was super irritable. Anything could set me off and I thought I could take on Mike Tyson if I had to. Crazy now that I look back.

Hi sorrpcpym

..it does sound like bd1. It's the only bipolar with psychotic features. I zip through hypomania into mania no problem. I hope you find out what you are. Let us know.

bipolar I, Bipolar II same thing, different label

Bipolar I is considered more severe because it does everything Bipolar II does plus true mania.

Same medications are used to treat them, just labels.

as Schizoaffective Bipolar Type, I have no idea what that is.

TMI to help understanding

BPII- deep depression & periods of hypomania (My husband thought his hypomania was just his depression being relieved. We both thought everyone's daily mood was like hypomania. He was switch"More is better" both in labeling and medication.)

BPI- When with I become canonically depressed. I go into myself it's just to tiring to respond or move. I need someone to care for me with boost without I would starve. Mania sleep and food is for the weak, agitated wanting to break anything/one that stands in my way of my fun. They suffer my wrath. Random psychosis

W/psychosis or Scizoaffective- Standing feelings of bugs on my skin and falling from my hair. Standing Random morbid though (ie. I should rip my veins from my arm with my teeth) occasional outside voice of anorexia, small visual hallucinations (black shadows scurrying acrossed floors/counters), hearing constant buzzing of "electric"

I'm dx BP II, I have mostly depression too. I havent had a hypomanic episode in over 5 years and havent had manic episode in closer to 10. I tend to be depressed more than anything else, with a 6 month period in a mixed episode this year (which was also related to hormones). I hope I am stable now but a few stressors are making me anxious.

Dx'd bipolar 1, but I've never been sure my mania rises to the level that other BP 1's have. Maybe I'm just in denial. But the treatment is the same as it was when I was BP-NOS, so it doesn't matter all that much.

Want a good time? Take an anti-depressant like prozac or Welbutrin. They drive bipolars manic, so you need a stabilizer to stay even. I stabilize on the depressed side and need a touch of anti d yo hit baseline. I like it a fuzz above base.

Yeah...I'm BP II, and I mainly have depression, also mixed episodes, interspersed with hypomania but not as often. I've been told predominantly being depressed is about right for bpii.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I have more mania and hypomania than depression so maybe the bipolar I DX is right.

Antidepressants didn't effect me this way. I've taken antidepressants including both of those. They didn't make the bipolar worse or really help with the depression either. It wasn't until they put me on Fetzima that I started to show some improvement.

BP2 here. Mostly depressions. My hypomanias are pretty mild, not very frequent, and don't last more than 2-3 weeks. My depressions can last for months and months.

Thanks again for the replies everyone, I got some clarification on my diagnosis today. It is definitely Bipolar Type 1 (Schizoaffective).

Yeah I agree with it, I've posted in the Schizoaffective forum how I'm coming to terms with this diagnosis

I've had full blown mania from antidepressants and I have never been considered BP I as it was triggered by antidepressants.
