I am just wondering if anyone has had good experience with Effexor. I am on extended release 75mg and am not feeling any better. Also, does it cause mania if I'm taking 300mg of Lamictal and 2mg of Risperdal?

I tried effexor for a bit before i was diagnosed as bipolar. I loved the feeling when the effexor kicked in. A great euphoria. After a month, i no longer felt better. My doc upped the dose to 150mg. It made me feel out of it and like a zombie. I switched to lexapro after that.

I had a terrible experience with it so don't ask me. But I had a terrible experience with antidepressants in general, which is why I'm aiming to just me on Lamictal.

I was using effexor xr 75 mgfor a short period of time as my doctor realised it caused me maniac episodes.I now remember this period of time like having a creative boost and a rather helpful experience.Sometimes i cant understand why doctors are so mean as he changed my prescription

I was on Effexor. My pdoc at the time was involved in the clinical trials of this drug. Different amounts effect different brain chemicals. I find it rather unique for this reason. But the withdrawl after discontinuation can be a nightmare.

This AD did not help me at any dosage, even at high dosages. But I find that it can work well for others. FWIW

I tried Effexor and it didn't help as an antidepressant. The only good thing was it killed my appetite and I didn't gain weight on it. The worse thing was it put me into a kind of stupor for most of the day, I was only really awake and alert for five hours in the evening, and the psychiatrist wouldn't help me. (This is a known side effect but unusual.) I came off of it myself, withdrawal very unpleasant.

I am on Effexor 150 mg a day and I must say that it's levelled me , so I'm happy with it. Good luck.

I had a good experience on Effexor XR. I was on 225mgs, I think. It helped with my anxiety some, too.

It really lowered my inhibitions and near the end my thoughts were getting pretty fast and that out of control feeling was taking over. I abused alcohol even moreso a month after starting effexor. Not sure if that was all hypomania or if it's just a sensitivity to a med. coming off, even after only a couple months of being on it, was hell.
