I am 21 year old gay male who recently started a new relationship. I haven't done anything sexual yet, but my meds, specifically Effexor is killing my libido. I can't even orgasm, and I'm not trying to be gross, so forgive me. I'm just putting it out there. Has anyone else experienced these same problems and did they go away over time?

Psych meds are notorious for these kinds of problems. You need to be honest and up front with your Pdoc , There are other options that can be tried .

Why is sex gross?

anyways when I started paxil I had the same issue, but eventually my body got use to it after 2-3 months.

Stick with the meds, there is more to a relationship than sex.

Yep! Effexor will do that to you I'm afraid. There are alternatives but as ever, it's a balance of efficacy and side-effects. Not only do we have to live with an illness but the very meds that keep us going deeply affect other areas of our lives.

Wishing you luck in your new relationship.

This may not sound like a problem but before I started taking meds I was having problems reaching climax with others but with manual stimulation I was able to finish. I started taking meds again a couple of years ago and now with manual stimulations I do not always climax. I wish you the best of luck and be upfront and honest with your doc like others have said.

I won't take anything that impedes my performance. Citalopram did that to me so I switched to Welbutrin or prozac.

While I was on Lexapro I couldn't orgasm. I gave it six months then told Pdoc we need to find something else. Took lots of trial and error but we found what works for me with limited side effects.

I've been on Effexor for a few months, and it has killed my sex drive and my ability to even get turned on in the least. It's like I've become frigid. I see my pdoc next week and I'm demanding that I be put on a different AD. I've never had this problem in my life and I've been on a lot of different ADs so I'm hopeful things will return to normal for me.

As others have said, just explain the problem to your pdoc. My pdoc is male and I'll be kind of embarrassed to bring up the topic but what the hell.

Good luck with this. I'm sure you can find an AD that will not affect you in that area.

Back in the day on Zoloft and Paxil, Welbutrin helped as did Ginko suppliments. Best of luck!
