i was dx bipolar I
i have comorbid disorders

ive done the research and think that i have ADD, im trying to talk to my team about this

i have written down a lot of symptoms and things that these symptoms inhibit;
but i feel like they look at me as if i copied this stuff from the internet...
i couldn't explain what i was feeling before, now that i've done the research i feel confident in saying ADD describes part of me

any advice?

ADD describes my baseline personality as well
My doctor refuses adderall ect because he says it will trigger mania
I have ppl all the time comment on how ADD i am but i never figured out if its seperate from the bipolar

Like racing thoughts ,intrusive thoughts obsessive thoughts can all screw up focus ect. But it seems like i never get a break with focus on or off bipolar meds which is why i think adderall would really help

When I first met my new pdoc he said to me if I was ever diagnosed as having ADHD do not take any of the meds because it would put me into a manic state just like jacky8807 stated. I told him that my last pdoc put me on adderall short term because I was in a depressive state and looking back I was definitely manic.

yeah i think adderall would really help me too, the way i see it, we take medicine to feel better so why would they keep something from us that could help us feel better?

counter-productive

i understand the worry about mania, but for me it might be a case of its not bipolar and adhd because i've never had a full blown manic episode or psychotic episode ( that i know of.. i dissociate alot)

My doctor tells me a small percentage of BP people go manic with SSRIs or stimulants. My Fluoxetine was one of the first ADs prescribed to me. Then came Bupropion. Then amphetamine salt (Adderal). FWIW

Hi all,
I have bipolar and ADHD. I have been prescribed Adderall for the past 5 years. It helps with my concentration but I still feel depressed. I also take Latuda and Lamictal.

I am diagnosed BP1 and ADD. They put me on Adderall and it threw me into full blown mania and then a mixed state. That is actually how they figured out that I had BP1. So then they put me on Strattera, a non-stimulant for ADD, and that has worked out fine.

I tend to go manic as well. And he has seen me at my worst so im assuming this is why he is being so cautious. Im going to bring up strattera!

I have BP2 and ADD. My ADD was diagnosed recently and I have been taking Adderall for it. The difference has been amazing. It doesn't affect my BP at all but I didn't truly realize how bad my ADD was until I began treatment for it. Now if only there was a drug that worked as well for BP.
