I'm a pill hoarder. It's the lamotrigines fault. I've got about 3 months worth of extra pills for just in case my ability to buy pills ends abruptly to float for awhile or I need to start weaning versus going cold turkey.

I went off Lamotrigine too fast tapering down once and I was curled up in the front seat of my truck, feeling like I was about to stroke. I was scared, I had to take a dose before I eventually was able to drive. I felt like hell. Never again.

Everytime I get a duplicate Rx, I fill it even if I don't need it. Sometimes I see it as an obsession, not a bad one though.

Anyone else feel this way or do it too?

Yes, I do it with Lamictal, too, because I don't ever want to be without it. I used to do the same thing with xanax, but flushed all that when I had a meltdown.

Lol Ya. I did that with Welbutrin, flushed a hundred pills. There's some happy fish out there!

Later that night I was clutching my brain. No more flushing!

I have an extra bottle of lamotrigine stuffed away just in case there's an issue with getting prescriptions on time. I don't like feeling completely at the mercy of my doctor's schedule.

I think I pill hoard because I am too lazy to round up the extra pills and flush them, lol. So they stay in the mix.

I don't want to be a bore but before I go into light hearted and somewhat comedic small talk, I must act on the urge to give you a quick heads up because it would be irresponsible for me not to: Lamotrigine can cause serious conditions such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome when a dose is rapidly decreased and increased again to a similar level. Missed doses can also cause a similar effect if dosage is resumed after at the same dose.

As most psychiatric medications contain a warning about tapering down or stopping meds, it might seem like a bit of an overly cautious thing to say. However, with Lamotrigine, this threat can be very real. It's definitely not a med to screw with :P

Moving on, I totally get that! I still have small stockpiles of medication I don't even take anymore. Mostly it's from me stopping meds and carrying on putting the prescription for them because the list was long and I didn't care for sifting through it to pick and choose which ones I wanted

Actually its not legal to flush pills ( yeah I know) police departments and pharmacies will accept meds and dispose of them correctly

Very true. There is rising concern of the meds getting back into our food supply. The pharmaceuticals aren't being removed in waste water treatment and passing on in to our aquatic life, which then food chains it back to our table. They are finding rising levels of drugs in our fish to begin with. This concern is over passing meds out of our bodies, let alone flushing a whole bottle of it.
