I know, I know, not another thread about weight gain....sorry! But I have to ask. I have been eating as little as 500 calories a day (I started out at about 1500 and gradually kept going lower as I didn't see any results), but I cannot lose a pound. I have read all the decriptions of my meds and there are none that I can find that should be causing me weight gain. I know it's not the Geodon, as I have been on that the longest and it never made me gain.

So I'd like to ask for a favor. Can you please look at the med list on my signature and let me know if you find a drug that could be the culprit for why I cannot lose weight? Maybe you have your own experiences or anecdotes on these drugs that you can share with me?

I had gained weight on Paxil, so I went off it. I'm trying to lose the pounds I gained from that, but it's not working. Right now I am not actually gaining any weight, but I cannot lose any weight either. I know eating only 500 cals a day is not healthy, but if I eat much more, I gain. I'm frustrated as all hell.

I appreciate any insight. Thanks for reading this.

I'm going through the same thing. Yesterday my primary care physician told me I had to start exercising everyday and pushing away from food. Easier said than done.

Personally, I believe the meds we are on, maybe not all of them, are messing up our metabolism.

I'm willing to stop eating because I don't want to die young from obesity related complications. But it is soooooo difficult. I feel your pain!

That's exactly what I was thinking, too, about the metabolism thing! My doc swears up and down that it's not that, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what else it would be!

Weight loss or gain is a side effect of Wellbutrin.

I don't know how much weight you are gaining but it can happen. I was on Zyprexa and it made me hungry 24/7 - ate until I was physically ill and still hungry. Finally told the doctors and they took meoff of it but not before I'd gained 20 lbs in one monnth. Was on Seroquel for a long time and gained weight, I didn't realize it until I was off the Seroquel but there was this low level need to eat sweets all the time. It was like a subliminal message, if I went to the store I got chocolate. I couldn't not get a candy bar or buy something sweet. It was always there. When I went off of it I gradually noticed that sometimes I'd think "I'll get a Mars bar today" when I was out and then get home and realize I'd never bought it.

I finally kind of stopped gaining weight and I've only recently (after being off Seroquel for 2 years) started losing weight.

I'm obese, I'll admit that and it does a number on my self image. But I'm fairly healthy -blood sugar is fine, cholesterol is fantastic, blood pressure has always been low. I'd probably fail a test for physical fitness, but I know people who are 80 lbs lighter than I am who couldn't pass a physical fitness test and who are dealing with cholesterol issue or high blood pressure.

You want to be careful about restricting your calories too much, especially if you are exercising. If you don't eat enough you're body can interpret that as starvation and start basically start hording calories which causes weight gain.
Thanks for this!

Thank so much for your post and advice. And I'll ask my pdoc if he thinks maybe Wellbutrin is a culprit in my problem.

I'm glad that you are losing after 2 years. It gives me hope that I can lose the extra weight, too. Even if it takes awhile. Thanks!

I really believe this too, I can tell there's changes in mine. I hate it.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Mine was off just by a little bit and they put me on meds and I instantly lost 30 lbs. At the time I was struggling to understand why I couldn't lose weight because I had done a 180 with the foods I ate and my calorie intake.
Thanks for this!

Zyprexa made me gain 28 lbs in a month!

I stopped taking my meds for awhile. Now I'm back on it and I'm not hungry like I was the first time. I needed some meat in my bones anyways.
