So I have been on lithium for a short time (just about 2 months) and I hate it! I hate the CONSTANT metal mouth taste, I feel like a zombie, my stomach is in a constant state of rumbling mess and I was skeptical to go on it in the first place.

I was on two pills a day and have already started cutting down to one a day. I see my pdoc on 3/11 so will be done with it by then. Does anyone take anything in place of lithium that i could suggest to my doc? Just an FYI , I would put myself more on the depressive side most times than manic. I think... I don't really know... I'm kinda newly diagnosed.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice!

You could up the abilify to a theraputic dose and see if that keeps you level. Other then that there are a heap of meds to try - are you after mood stabilisation or just to get you out of depression?

Hmmm...good question! I think I need to be more mood stabilized at this point. I'm eating everything in sight, can't sleep, kinda sad but not laying in bed sad. You know... I don't know what the hell I am! Sounds like mood stabilization! 😛

Lamotrigine is a mood stabiliser that is often used to treat more the depressive side of bipolar. I need both but many are able to stay with just Lamotrigine. Most importantly though it is best to discuss this with your pdoc as we are all different. I hope you find the right meds for you soon.

Thanks Wander ~ I feel I definitely have more depressed times than manic (unfortunately!) I will look into this one... Thank you!
