Well, I recently inquired about how long your depressive episodes were and got alot of interesting and varied responses. So I figured I'd follow up with asking how long is your average, and longest, manic or hypomanic episode?

I dunno, I guess averages and numbers and what not interest me. I'm a weirdo. hahah

My hypomanic episodes are usually a matter or weeks but when I go into mixed states, with full blown mania and major depression, they can last up to a few months, even with treatment (although it does have a dampening effect). The mixed states are hellish. I much prefer the hypomania. They are fun

A few months of full blown mania. Hypomania maybe 4-6 mos. Then a few month depression.

My psychiatrist lets me stay hypomanic if I don't go manic.

Hypomania can go 3-4 weeks, full blown mania, 3-4 months. Mixed states about a month.

I went into a grandios episode that lasted about 6 months. I was hypomanic. My depressive state varies. I would be in one now but my meds stabilize me.

I sure wish mine would.....he doesn't let me get away with much of that because I usually get manic if hypo goes on for more than a couple of weeks. OTOH, it's not good for me to get manic, so I suppose he's right to quash the hypo. Although I'm so well medicated now that I really don't get the highs anymore.

just as variable as my depressive episodes haha

Yeah. I really can't pin them to a time frame.

Many can though.

So I am really glad that you have asked this.

Mine used to be more predictable in the past.

Now they are all over.

Just a bit hypo. But only if I am sleeping enough, not drinking too much, not having coffee and in therapy. I see her a lot.

Varies wildly. Unchecked, I can stay hypomanic for months at a time.

Unless it's the unpleasant hypo. They tend to escalate very quickly into something dangerous and well, yeah. They tend to not last more than a few weeks, depending on how long it takes for my psychiatrist to start throwing pills at me and referring me for "voluntary" intervention.

I use the term "voluntary" very lightly.

Definitely. But she's kept me off a psych ward or worse with her intervention.

Should be grateful, I suppose.

My longest mania lasted over 6 months. I was psychotic and I was not medicated. Typically though, it lasts anywhere from about 2-6 weeks. Depending one its severity, how quickly it is fully noticed, and how many potent drugs get stuffed down my throat (which sometimes do and sometimes do not work).

My previous pdoc was like that. She was the most considerate, thorough and straightforward doc I've ever had. In fact, she was the best doc I've ever had and I miss her like crazy.

I do love my current doc too though. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I can't fault my pdoc. I'm more likely to listen to her than anyone else, so when she says that I'm very hypomanic and it's worrying her, I listen. Most of the time.
