I've been confounded about this other profound aspect of my psyche- I can't tell if a person is laughing or crying by looking at them.
I get so confused when a person is crying, but at a point it looks like they are laughing! And visa versa. I get so confused that I unappropriately end up laughing at the wrong times which is worse than crying at the laughing times. It so red faced embarrassing! It scares me! To not be able to pick up emotional cues and assign an actual emotion to it. A distraught person looks like they are hysterically laughing. I have asked so often "are you laughing or crying?" What a stupid question to ask someone in pain, or having a great laugh. Any idea what this is? I'm going to post this in different areas so that I get a good variety of replies from every perspective. I'm really concerned about this. Thanx.

I get this when manic, generally when stable I can pick up cues. So I would interpret physical body language quite well. Oh I mean I don't know really. Lets use this photo as an example whilst I am manic. Is this man below in hysterical laughter like wetting his pants because THE most hillarious joke has been told he is laughing so hard at this joke? Or do you think he's just found out some devastating news and is crying? I don't know really. My judgment is impaired when I am manic so I don't pick up social ques. Should we run a vote poll topic on this picture AlwaysChanging? VOTE POLL TOPIC: IS THIS MAN LAUGHING OR CRYING * Laughing * Crying

The eyes are a dead give away to me for crying. Something about hearing the person also throws me off. The crying starts sounding like laughing. As a package, I feel lost. But the lips suggest fixing to burst out laughing???

I vote fake cry over somebody he is mocking

I suffered from this in my late teens, it caused some serious issues. Now I am better at knowing others emotions better than my own!! My 14 year old now suffers this horribly, she couldn't pick up on a social cue to save her life!
