Went and saw my new psychriatrist at the clinic. He was very smart. He said I am not bipolar. He explained they dx bipolar because of insurance reasons and laziness. Also, in questionarees, a lot of questions aren't explained in detail and it could say we're bipolar. He said my symptoms are similar to a newer disorder that they put in the DSM or whatever. It's called Multidimensionally impaired disorder, but for diagnosistic reasons I'm like a mood disorder NOS. He's slowly taking me off of Trileptal, stopping Invega Sustenna, starting Wellbutrin XL 300mg, and I'm on Trazodone 100mg as needed. I'm so happy.

I would get a second opinion on that. Have you googled it?
It looks like it's designated for children, and as a way to explain early onset of a number of different disorders, especially schizophrenia. It's been researched for a number of years, and in the DSM-IV is referred to as a syndrome. I couldn't find anything about it being in the DSM-V as a new mood disorder. You should definitely look into this more. They could have totally decided to add it as a new disorder, please don't get me wrong. And if you are not bipolar, that's great! But be very careful, you don't want someone to misguide you after you've just had a rough time and got stable. ![]()

I think he said this because all my psychosis was when I was younger and hasn't happened again. He said another symptom is that I'm socially awkward. But He said he couldn't put it as a dx, so I'm Mood Disorder NOS. It needs more research. He needs to spend more time with me.

It explains a lot of my childhood though.

Ah, I see. That makes sense.
Social awkwardness could be explained by a number of factors, not just a disorder per se. I think everyone's socially awkward, to some extent. How do you feel about coming off all the meds? Just make sure you take good care and report everything. ![]()

I feel better coming off of these meds because I always felt like I didn't need them all. I had a feeling I wasn't bipolar.
I'm happy to try Wellbutrin. I heard it's good. The doctor told me that from my traumatic childhood, he would be more concern if I was normal. Haha. |

Glad to hear you have been diagnosed correctly now. I thought just from your threads that you were not bipolar but of course, if I had suggested it I would have been shot down in flames.
Thankyou for explaining how you got the diagnosis in the first place, I believe that it is over diagnosed in the US for exactly the reason your doctor mentioned. |

Thank you. I have a nephew who is bipolar and I'm not like him at all. I knew I wasn't bipolar. Doctors are just lazy.
