So I have bipolar disorder, mixed and anxiety/panic disorder. I take Klonipin as needed for the anxiety. So last night I was so tense and anxious I took 1mg around 1145pm. Within the hour I was calm but by 830/9am I woke up shaking and experienced all the physical symptoms of panic. Shouldn't the Klonipin work longer than 8 plus hours. (Side note I did wake up in the middle of the night starving and ate like three handfuls of chips and a glass of milk. I don't know if that contributed and if so why). Thank you! This is the first time this has happened. I thought Klonipin was supposed to last 24 hours. Any feedback would be appreciated. I hate this feeling sooooo much. It makes me want to take another one as soon as I wake up but I don't want to do that and build up a tolerance so today I powered through it and now it's slowly starting to go away but it's taken abt 90 min to even feel relief.

No, klonopin doesn't work 24 hours. Only about 6, I think. I know when I was taking it I had to take it 3 times a day and sometime I would start to get anxious before I was supposed to take the next dose.

Yeah klonopin only lasts a few hours. It's usually prescribed 2 or three times a day. For me it's prescribed twice a day (I take it right before work and half way through work), and I also take 2mg for sleep now. That's new for me. We'll see how it works.

I am sorry to hear this.

I wonder if any of these blogs on Psych Central regarding some strategies you may be able to try to reduce anxiety may be of benefit to you in conjunction with your medication?
