Lately, my pdoc has been telling me to take 50 mg of lamictal at night and 1 mg Klonopin. I have been on lamictal for 3 weeks and after stopping seroquel, I took lamictal at night alone without the Klonopin. I have a tolerance to the drowsiness of the Klonopin at 2.5 mg if taken, yet just 1 mg added to the lamictal makes me incredibly "wasted". I was with my friend last night and she was spending the night, and within ten minutes I was completely ****ed up. I couldn't walk or form sentences and I passed out. This has been going on for a few days. I told pdoc about this, and he said there are no listed interactions, but I don't think this is normal at all. I recorded a video of myself, and watched it today, and it was very fascinating. Has anyone experienced this or know what could be happening?

Never heard of that. Were you drinking at the same time?

I take klonopin and have experienced some odd things with it (like 1 mg in the daytime will make me incredibly sleepy but 3 mg at bedtime has less effect) so I was interested in what you were asking.
I found this info on the drugs.com site (one I've seen my pharmacist check.) Some other reading seems to suggest that mixing any kind of benzo with Lamictal is going to do similar things. There was also some info about glutamate & GABA with Lamictal and klonopin on crazymeds.com but I couldn't understand it. The general vibe I got was to be very careful mixing benzos and Lamictal. |

I take clonazepam and lamictal. I have never experienced what you describe, but when I take my lamictal and clonazepam together at night, it does seem to enhance the effects of the clonazepam. It feels really nice taking them together, for me anyway.

I have had 200mg of Lamotrigine, 2mg of Clonazepam and drank alcohol and I was still not slurring my speech. We all react differently though so if it is really concerning you I would ask your pdoc for other options, or see if it passes over time. It is a concern.
