Ugh, the meds.

On one hand, they've kept me out of a psych ward in the last month. I feel a little more balanced and I even found myself smiling. Smiling!

And then there's the fact I feel like I'm losing intelligence each time I take them. Words sent as easy to come out as they should be. And I constantly feel sick.

Can't have the best of both

Have you told your pdoc about how you are feeling? Meds shouldn't have to have such an adverse effect on our lives. The fact that they are working is a good sign. Maybe just a little tweeking will help.

I don't know if I should even mention it for being knocked back after my last episode. I've basically been sedated for the last few weeks and it's only now that I'm heading off the "emergency" stuff that I know what planet I'm on.

I notice that you take lithium also? I'm currently on 1400mg a day. Have you had any physical ill-effects and if so, are they worth it?

Do mention how it makes you feel. It's important to have good dialogue with your Pdoc so they find the right meds that both help you with the bipolor and have few side effects. Sometimes the side effects take a while to go away, sometimes you need adjustments as you start stabilizing, and sometimes you need to try different cocktails before you find the right meds.

I have taken up to 1250mg of Lithium a day and the side effects I notice most are tremors, intense thirst and weight gain. For me it is a fair trade off as I am crazy and mixed most of the time without it. I still have breakthrough episodes but less often. Before I was on Lithium I was beside myself most of the time.

Yeah I totally relate to what you're saying.

I have pretty similar side effects.

I really like how you have worded this:

I feel a little more balanced and I even found myself smiling. Smiling!

I am going to try and remember that I do this too.

The other things are really frustrating.

Oh yeah, the tremors. I'm taking propranolol for them but they just don't seem to be going away completely?
