I have bipolar type 2 with anxiety disorder. My doctor says I should move into a group home, because I am living on my own and not doing well and isolating all the time. I am on ssdi disability and have medicare insurance. I call mental health agencies, but they say I need Medicaid. I do not wish to have Medicaid. Is there any way to get into a group home with just medicare?
I am in the Kansas city area.
Thanks in advance.

Medicare will not pay for a group home. Medicare only pays for hospitalization (Part A) or outpatient (Part B). So the only financial help you can get for group homes or other facilities is unfortunately Medicaid. Medicare is apparently more interested in fixing the results of not having enough care than it is in prevention.

You can get home health services through Medicare for psych. It wouldn't help the social stuff much but it does give extra support and someone monitoring how you are doing. I think you have to be homebound though meaning you need extreme effort to leave home. I'm having trouble remembering if psych is different with that requirement or not and I can't remember. Not all home health agencies offer psych services but some do.
