I am coming into my sixth month of my BP diagnosis. While things aren't firm just yet, I meet a lot of the criteria. But one thing I've begun experiencing recently is that I am starting to hear things. Specifically, I am hearing people call my name when no one does.

Has anyone else experienced something like this into their diagnosis? I'm wondering if it is the medication (Depakote) I am taking. Rock on.

If you've never heard things before, and you've recently started a new medication, I would bring it up to your PDOC. It might be a rare side effect or something. It would be nice if it's just a side effect and it will go away once you stop the med.

I don't hear things, but I see things out of the corner of my eyes. Figures and shadows that scare me. But when I turn, nothing is there. I've gotten used to it now and it rarely scares me but sometimes it still freaks me out.

For me it is music
Like a radio, playing softly, not quite tuned in properly
It never goes away
It isn't scary though
Is yours scary?

Elsa, I see things out of the corner of my eye too.....it spooks me but I'm used to it.

Standup, it isn't scary more than unnerving and embarrassing. I'll say "what" and people will say "we didn't say anything". It makes me look stupid but that's OK. I'm learning to deal with it.

The worst part of the music...it only seems to be 70s and 80s music...and not the good stuff

I swear if I hear Margaritaville (Jimmy Buffet) one more time I will scream

...wasting away in margaritaville, searching for my long lost........arrrrrgggghhh

Diagnosed last fall. On Depakote. Been hearing my name called by no one there for years. Cannot understand anything else said but lately they growl after saying my name.

I am scared sometimes of the voices and the things I see.

I was looking up common side effects of Depakote (neither auditory nor ordinary hallucinations were mentioned) and I came across this:

Quote:
The FDA requires Depakote to carry a black-box warning because it can cause serious liver damage that could be fatal, especially in children younger than 2.

The risk of this happening is higher in the first six months of taking the drug. In some cases liver damage continued even after patients stopped taking Depakote.

There is an additional black-box warning linking Depakote to cases of life-threatening pancreatitis. In some cases, patients who developed pancreatitis rapidly went from initial symptoms to death, so getting medical treatment quickly is essential.
WTF. Both my parents died young of cancer and I'm pounding 1500 mg a day of this crap that attacks my liver and promises the possibility of rapid lethal pancreatitis. I might not live to see the reunification of Korea after all.

Me also, I have an extreme startle response due to my PTSD and sometimes I actually jump and inhale loudly scared to death at shadows and figures that aren't there.I also swerve sometimes while driving for people walking into the street that aren't there. Auditory hallucinations just started recently, it's usually just my name, others it's whispering and I also say "what" and people are like.....I didn't say anything, accompanied by a look that says.....you, are crazy

Yes; I have actually had this before; it's usually been during mood states; I can't say it's all that great; I hate it; but yes; if you can stabilise your mood / find the right med combo by working with your pdoc - hopefully this will pass soon for you and you will start to feel more at ease.

Hang in there.
Thanks for this!

HAHA! Great. Don't forget about "American Pie", the most overplayed, loved-by-2AM-drunks song on earth.

I was worried about this too - my doc upped me to 1500 a day recently as well but he's already run two bloods on me to check my liver so he's on top of it. I just sit there and flirt with whoever is drawing - male or female - doesn't matter!

I try my best to have some fun with it.....if there's any fun to be had. It's where I am now and my alternative is to go back to being who I was before, an angry, paranoid, ranting, self destructive splitter who drinks too much when he's in a good mood. At the same time, all sorts of side effects are listed with all sorts of medications. Heck, I eat grilled steak once a week. That probably isn't good for me either.

Rock on.

I will occasionally (usually less than once a month) hear my name called out or someone say something like "hello".

I imagine that there is some auditory stimulation that is real that is being interpreted by my brain as a voice.

For me it is really frustrating, I can usually guess when it is a hallucination but I'll check in with those around me if they are trusted to be sure.

I keep record of whenever they happen so that if there is an increase I have a record to know exactly how dramatic the increase is.

I went around thinking I had really bad BO. Like in really bad. I could smell it, but nobody else could.... No matter how many showers I took I still had that smell in my nose. It was in one of my hypomanic stages. It went away, only had it during that one episode. Weird.

I sometimes see moving shapes out of the corners of my eyes, but I never thought they could be hallucinations. I still don't think they are, but they are strange. No voices calling my name, thankfully. I don't know if I could cope with that.

I see stuff moving all the time out of the corner of my eye. It gives me the willies but I'm getting used to it.
