Hello elevatedsoul

I am not sure how others might describe it as I am sure that you will get a variety of responses here; so this is just for me personally.

I am utterly unable to pay attention.

People can tell me things but honestly I will only be able to decipher about 40% of what they are saying when I am manic; maybe even close on 30% the rest will just pass straight over my head.

I am highly distracted and probably focused on thinking about one thing in my mind but no sooner have I thought the thought than it disappears into the oblivion - lost - I can think a multitude of thoughts every minute yet think nothing at all. I just get lost in my own thought. They're too fast. There's just too many of them.
Thanks for this!

I have lots of things flowing through my mind. I sometimes hear what I call a radio inside like songs over and over playing. Its annoying. I lose focus a lot.

I feel ADD when manic as well. Leg shaking, finger tapping, can't concentrate.

Hi elevatedsoul, When I have racing thoughts I feel like I have short term memory loss. One thought comes, then another comes so fast I forget the last one I had.. this goes on rapidly. This happens when I'm manic. Sometimes when I'm not manic and I'm worried about a lot of things the thoughts will race through my mind one after another at what seems like a high rate of speed, like I can't pin one down to solve whatever is bothering me. It is exhausting for me.
Thanks for this!

Mine just never stop. It's like I think one thought with another thought right behind it at the same time and they just keep going and going. Sometimes it's hard to grab a thought and things come out backwards or disoriented. The more manic I become, the worse it is until I don't even recognize it anymore.

I feel like I'm in a vortex with thoughts spinning in my head. I cant concentrate on anything. I become agitated. I end up pacing and working myself up into a frenzy. It's not a great way to spend time.

Yes - I love the description "vortex" Toodles - that's actually a pretty good adjective to describe how I feel when I'm manic.

cashart - yup - me too "mine never stops" = yeah it's like that isn't it? Ughhh I hate it when that happens.

gagrl - I get badly affected with memory loss too when I'm manic. It's pretty annoying for me.

Valentina - I tend to get very restless when I'm manic. I do a lot of pacing. Actually my pacing probably co incides in more with when I'm in a mixed state too. I just can't keep still.

Hallie - interesting that you should mention songs. I get repetative songs playing in my mind when I am manic. Not the best choice for chat rooms when I am manic. I have been known to spam chat rooms with lyrics when I am manic

Thankfully I am no longer manic!
