I am SO sick of hearing "oh, that happens to me too", "it's just mommy brain". Yes, but does it happen to you EVERY DAY ALL DAY?????
My memory, word recall, spelling and just general understanding of things has taken a beating. Sorry, just had to rant. |

Actually, in all honesty, I blame some of my cognitive problems on "mommy brain". I never had any spelling or name recalling issues until I had her. Now there's so much on my mind all of the time. So much worry.
So it's probably a combination of meds and mommy brain in my situation. Actually, in all honesty, I don't know what the **** it's from. I'm becoming dumber the older I get.

For me, 90% of my brain fog was coming from depression. I thought for sure meds or aging, etc. But once I got on the right combo and working on the correct treatment, the fog got way better - probably just from coming out of depression.
good luck, moogs

I know the various mood stabilizers I have tried have all given me the stupids. Latuda was the least stupid of the ones I have taken. They make me just not function at full tilt mentally.
But that's a convo with your p-doc and you.

I understand completely. I feel lamictal has caused brain fog, forgetfulness, short term memory loss, and mental dullness. I forget things someone told me in the AM by the time I'm out of work at 5. It sucks. I hope you feel better <3

I'm on 300mg Lamotrigine, 1000mg of Valproic acid and 4mg Risperidone. I have poor executive functioning and memory.
My pdoc says some of it may be from meds, but (very encouragingly) suggested that it was a cumulative part of the illness: Fry your brain often enough (mania, depression or psychosis) and you pick up some brain damage. I sincerely hope it is 99% meds. |

It's terrible. It can be very hard to finish a sentence when a simple word like clock is completely out of reach. I hang around people who are considerably older than I am. It helps.

Had an egotistical psych bomb me right out of hospital. Within 4 weeks I was walking around like I was in a tunnel. I stopped driving for 9mos because I didn't have control of my mental functions enough to be behind the wheel. I lost 40+lbs. At my worst I would circle the dining room with my fingers in my hair cursing...I just didn't know what to do. I was a sick puppy. At that point I asked him if I was dying.
After I fired him and found a nice female psych, 3+yrs later now I settled on Lithium 600mg and Lamictal 150mg. After a couple of years I experimented with tweaking those meds, and got them down to this dose. As a result my brain came pretty much back. Determined the Ambien/Zolpidem was the culprit. |

I've commented about this for the last two years with my pdoc. He just agree'd to have me reduce my Lamictal dose to 300 from 400... thing is I had already stepped it down from 400-200mg on my own over the last few months. I think things are a little more clear? But I can't say for sure, cause well, things aren't that clear! lol
It's definitely affecting me at work and in some of my personal life. We talked about switching to Lithium... but I'm really uncertain on that one.

I was at a meeting today in a parents group at my sons school. I was going to say something, but forgot completely what I was going to say. I managed to cover up by saying that " let me think about how I am going to put this... ". I hope they believed that, because after all it was a bit critical what I had to say. But I am sure that some of the people there understood what happened to me...
