Apparently my husband's mom read this really interesting article about how some people get seasonal affective disorder in the summer instead of in the winter (a very small number of people).
Most, if not all, of my major depressions have happened in the summer. I think I'm at the start of one this summer. I always blamed it on a traumatic event that happened to me in the summer when I was eighteen (which was 2001. Yes. I am old). So that's a trigger for me. Does anyone else get more depressed in the summer?

i'm glad to finally see a thread like this. it wouldn't be the first time i've posted in threads about this- that all my symptoms are 100 times worse in the summer people think it's crazy... people say oh but summer's great. it's the best. their's so much to do. but for me.. all my hospital visits/ episodes are in the summer. so glad i'm not alone in this anymore. was getting to feel a little weird about the whole situation |

I tend to have at least four cycles per year. Two up. Two down. And, I get SEVERELY depressed in the summer. Except, for the last year I have been very unstable. . . with lots of mixed episodes thrown in the mix. But, summer is definitely difficult for me.

Summer can be bad b/c normal people are taking vacations and doing things, while I live like it's still winter.

I wish I knew what my cycles are....I have never been able to remember to keep track of my mood in a tracker.
Though I do know I generally hit a depressive funk around Thanksgiving to the New Year generally every year and it has nothing to do with the holidays themselves.

I'm normally fine in the winter. I get a little wintry bluesy about mid february, but nothing serious. I've never had a major depression in the winter. Usually, if I am going to have a summer depression, it starts around april and goes into august, and then it normally ends in the fall.
This is the first time it's happened so late in the season.

I find myself getting more depressed in the summer than in the winter. I get into this period of not wanting to do anything/talk to anyone, but after about two weeks I start to come out of it and then I'm good to go.
