Anyone else have a constantly bouncing leg? I do it when depressed at work to keep myself from sinking into malaise....like it keeps me above water when not engaged.

I do it when I am hypo cuz I have a ton of energy.

Do you bounce your leg excessively? If so, why?

I do it a lot. It's a giveaway that I'm approaching or at some level of mania. But I have had to learn in the last year to not sit with my toes pressing into the floor, heel up, ready to start bouncing (I think I do it when I'm deep in thought as well) because it was making my achilles tendon get very tight. It was partly from an injury and partly from doing that. It was easy to tell how much I did it; all my shoes were worn out with the toes bent up a bit from being in that position.

Yes, do this all the time, along with "wringing" my wrists, shaking my arms out, & cracking my knuckles. Is it a sign of mania?

When I was in high school (I just graduated, lol) I used to bounce my leg so much that people would ask me to stop. Now I just pace around for 2-5 miles per day in my house.

Simplydivine, I think it depends on the person. It is for me but honestly I only know that because one of my therapists said that it was often the only way she could tell if I didn't say "I'm feeling manicky". My current therapist has a lot more clues and I'm a lot better at knowing and telling him when something is off than I was before. But it is still consistent enough when I'm manic that he will tell me that I kicking me foot/bouncing my leg less.

For me it's when I get super anxious. My mom tells me to stop but honestly most of the time I don't even realize I'm doing it. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one too.

Foot-tapping and leg-bouncing are two of my early signs of hypo/mania. I'm not even aware of it till my husband says "Looks like you've got your happy-feet thing going again." It's nonstop when I go into full-blown mania and I have been known to fidget off 1-2 pounds over the course of the episode. (Yes, I've checked.)

I have a hard time sitting still due to my pain, so I'm always tapping or something ,, But when I'm doing it non stop and I cant stop it even when my husband points it out, Well then I am headed up and I need to increase self care.

How to stop? keep flinging coping skills at it until something sticks. lol

Ha!

I have done this my whole life! I don't know that it is an episode for me thing though. I generally have an excessive amount of nervous energy. I also have been told I have ADHD and I have anxiety so maybe it is that. It just happens. So funny that it happens to everybody else.

I do it, I can't stop it. It's especially bad when manic or agitated.

I have this happen, worst timing is my right leg when I am driving. I thought it was meds. PDoc says it is anxiety. I am still new to Dx so,do not really know if it is tied to me getting manic.

very interesting...based on this small sample, looks like it's pretty prevalent.

Yes yes!! And not always when I'm anxious. Sometimes just out of the blue. It's been like this even before I went on meds. I hope I get some exercise benefit from it
