Ever used it as a part of treatment? I personally feel that Marijuana helps me relax and gets me going. I'm always happy, hungry and sleepy when I smoke it; nothing less. These pharmaceutical companies are making a killing off of mental illnesses.

I enjoy it, it definitely has value in terms of instant relief / gratification, but it causes me major problems on down the line.

It makes me relaxed and talkative at the same time. It helps the social awkwardness

Hehe it does. I've known people who go to work stoned almost every day, who smoke at least a gram almost every day, and somehow they seem to function. I smoke one little bowl and have a nice evening/sleep, but then the next day I am paranoid as ****.

Marijuana is a great drug but it personally makes me very paranoid / anxious. I no longer use it medically.

Currently the green is doing wonders for me. I go on and off smoking it cause sometimes is makes me too paranoid and has caused me to have racing thoughts before but I think it probably depends on the type of weed what sort of effect it has on you. Right now it is making me calm and complacent...sleepy and hungry. Nothing wrong with that. Luckily I live in a state where it is decriminalized and now being used medically!

I've wondered if it's like a sativa vs indica thing, but where I live it's all just mystery junk.

I self medicated with marijuana for 8 years before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder... It wasn't until I had to stop that everything officially hit the fan.. Was the best release ever for me.. I never got stoned either. Just hit a oney once every one or two hours. I think that was as close as I got to normalcy

I smoke everyday and find it immensely helpful. It takes the edge off without benzos, which I've had problems with.

I've asked my daughter, who knows people who are experts, to research the kinds of marijuana that are good for bipolar. I love what the weed does for me, except I can't smoke it while depressed because it makes that worse. It's legal in my state, which is why I haven't bothered to get a MM card ($200 for a 15-minute consult with a doctor??). But I do want to get the benefits of MJ so maybe I can get down or off some of my meds.

I wish it was legal here. When I do smoke it is the only thing that lowers my pain. It really needs to be legal,. My state really needs to take the stick outta there backside.

I have been known to use it on occasion. I dont have access to the different strains so it is hit and miss as to how it will make me feel. It pretty much always makes me feel better than I did. Sometimes it is activating and I will clean, other times it is sedating and I will chill. My pdocs say having it on occasion is safer/better than using benzos. Very occasionally I will have anxiety the next day or on the come down but its nothing compared to panic or anything and is totally manageable.

Legalisation is a long way off where I live but I look forward to the day as I imagine it will be in my lifespan.

A word of warning though, while it is all good to use occasionally - it is a habit forming drug and using it daily is a bad idea for people with mental illness, especially long term. So just be aware that it isnt a "medication" that you can take every day without possible further consequences. Its best used as a prn when you know how you react to that particular strain.
Thanks for this!

Agree with everyone else. It is fine for me except when manic. Then it can kind of push the mania.

I live in a legalized state and use.

I'm constantly stoned on licensed vapor; in fact, I have no idea what's going on.

Medical marijuana?

I have never used it medically as in prescribed.

I certainly see its uses though.

Before I was diagnosed with Bipolar Depression I was going through a major depressive episode that lasted for months with suicidal ideations etc...I smoked for one of the first and only times and for the first time in months actually felt normal. It felt amazing.

I have this similar feeling. I am a bodybuilder and for some reason, whatever disorder I have whether it be anxiety, or mania, I smoke and feel awesome, positive thoughts, good appetite, but lazy as hell. Also if I smoke too much, It gets worse. But your right the next day I have to wake up and take a hit because if I don't I won't eat and im worried about everything.

They say the indica ones are better for BP. It's not as trippy as the other stuff.

Sativa isn't trippy, it's more of an upper than indica. I like sativas because they make me not want to sleep and actually make me feel productive. Indica knocks me the hell out lol.

I use it as an add-on to my meds. You know, on those days where I get mildly symptomatic. Since meds don't provide immediate relief I got an MMJ rec and I'm glad I did. I used to use it to help me sleep, but pdoc recently gave me trazodone for that. But I still use it for things like agitation, depressive slips, etc. I find it really helps, and let's face it, it's fun! I prefer edibles because my lungs aren't what they used to be (you'd think I could handle smoking it, I smoke cigarettes every day, but cigs and weed are two different animals).

It's helped me cope over the years. IN hindsight, 27 years later, it probably help me survive. Back in the 80s parents didn't focus much on mental health IMHO. I used heavy in my late teens and early twenties but work and drug testing ended that. Now its only on occasion when I have extended time off work. Back in 2012 I had a major leg injury in which I was off work for 6 months. It was a life saver for my overall wellness. To be clear, it was not issued by prescription, my state is very picky.
